Police Find Automatic Weapons, Grenades, Tank At Dead Survivalist’s Home

Authorities have discovered a large cache of automatic weapons, explosives and even a tank at the New York home of a survivalist who may have killed himself on Tuesday night.

Carmel Police on Thursday were forced to evacuate a Mahopac neighborhood while investigating the death of 41-year-old Jonathan Orser, a former Marine Corps reservist.

Carmel Police Chief Michael Johnson told The Journal News that Orser had “over 100 firearms, rifles and shotguns, 15,000 to 20,000 rounds of ammunition, buckets of black (gun) powder, hand grenades” and other military ordinance at his home.

Johnson said that the blasting caps alone “could have caused the whole house to go up and maybe surrounding houses.”

The 725th Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit based in Fort Drum, N.Y. was called in early Friday morning to take possession of the ordinance.

you can even have a functioning main cannon if you go through the ATF procedures and pay the $200.00 tax stamp.
The automatic weapons? Same thing, along with the grenades, but, I highly doubt that this asshat did this legally.

But as a former tanker myself, I side with those who believe that if it doesn't have tracks, it's not a tank.

I'd call it a glorified armored car.

It's simply a crew-served weapon on wheels; which is what a tank is, only a tank has treads.

According to the Journal News article linked by Raw Story.

I'm unable to identify it more specifically than that right now.

On edit: An Alvis FV601 Saladin six-wheeled armoured car, perhaps?

According to Dictionary.com, it has to be a tracked vehicle to be a tank.

Took me some head scratching to figure out it's an Alvis FV601 Saladin six-wheeled armoured car.

would have been a better headline.

As a survivalist, this guy sucked...

But props to him for not taking anyone with him before he checked out.

something to the effect that suicide is not usually compatible with survivalism.

Yours is better.

It's apparently had its weapons removed and its barrel plugged, thus civilians can own it. Without the weapons, it's pretty much an expensive tractor.

Maybe he figured he could mow down some "mud people" and soshalists in the streets with it, and then he'd get a medal?
