DUers in Extreme Heat Zones: Please Look Out for Suffering Animals

If you see animals in distress, without shelter from the sun, without water, etc., please do what you can to help them, such taking action to cool them down immediately and contacting local humane societies.

Thank you for your compassion!

The birds and other critters will thank you if you put out a shallow pan or two of water for them.

Just don't fill too deep so the birdies can't bathe. Not a bad idea to put out some bigger tubs, too, if you get a lot of larger animals, such as deer.

It's 96 here today, not our usual weather for June. I have been going around filling the bird baths and other containers with water for the birds. We don't have any nearby streams or ponds for them to drink from.

less that an hour ago. I came out of the grocery store (small town) and there it was a puppy in a car with all the windows up, dark green too. Parked right out front in full sun. I freak at the stupidity. I go across the street, under the huge cottonwoods where my truck with the windows down and my dog are parked. I drive over to the store and wait, he comes out in maybe one minute, total time for him maybe four minutes. I say ya know it don't take long in this heat. He says, DUDE I was only in their for a minute. I said I know, I know, then I walked away, I hope he got the message. I see it all the time and they all got an excuse. Why couldn't the lazy fucker park his car under the enormous shade. All it takes is for him to get distracted for too long and the dog is dead. I would have waited a couple more minutes and then went in the store and raised big hell with witnesses if he didn't show up pretty quick.

I'm lucky enough to be able to afford air conditioning and I have an ice maker but many are not that fortunate. This heat can be especially pernicious to the elderly.

Well it feels like the 90s here in Los Angeles, but other parts of Cali is smoking and my gosh Nevada and other states.

If, for example, you know an elderly neighbor doesn't have AC, check in on them, etc.

who cannot stand temperatures above 90 and whose face will turn beet red just before collapsing. I'm right now in a wonderfully cool climate, but in the next few days I'll be returning to the gates of hell.
