Is this how OFA asks for donations? This is the email I just received. Very inappropriate.

Organizing for Action <info@barackobama.com>

to me

Subject: Our last email today, promise

XXXXXXX --

At midnight tonight, we're putting together a list of OFA members.

Unless you do something right now, it looks like your name won't be on it.

Here's the supporter record on file for this exact email address:

-- Organizing for Action member: No
-- Suggested donation today: $5

That'd be a shame, Kaitlin.

Chip in $5 or more now and become an OFA member instantly:

https://donate.barackobama.com/Sunday-Deadline

Thanks,

Organizing for Action

Can any of you DU geniuses guess what my immediate thought was?

Felt like a 8 year old was trying to manipulate me into giving them money for Otter Pops and Pokemon cards.

I don't mind sending them money. That isn't the point.

I've always felt that using guilt is a bad strategy in fundraising.

Doesn't inspire people to dig in.

I'll give them the $5, but instead of a larger donation, I'll send that to a local candidate who has staff that has some manners.

I would not give them a penny, plus I would sent the letter or whatever it is back with a note as to the tone of the .."request".

I have to agree with the OP. If I got that email (which I probably did, haven't checked my e/m yet) I'd be inclined to say "f*** yeah, just drop me from your list, assholes".

Having heard about how much money OFA has burned through since its inception, I'm not inclined to support them. I have my own reasons for not being enthusiastic about them though. I've never worked with an organization that has alienated so many people so effectively in such a short period of time.

They couldn't believe how the organizational help dried up. We worked our asses off in 2008, working with Obama For America. Then, when we wanted to build on the momentum to work for the midterm elections, poof. They were nowhere to be found. Didn't want to share anymore. Perplexing & very disillusioning.

i got the same format of ask (i think from MoveOn) and was struck at how tone deaf it was, especially at a time when data mining abuses are front and center.

it's a great example of how NOT to ask for money vis a vis current events.

Update: Just checked and I received the same email along with several others promising me a chance to meet President Obama if I donate by midnight. Decisions decisions.
