(172,710 posts)It's a great learning experience. What I always loved about DU is that a person has to provide links unless it's their own opinion. You will eventually know what links are valid, but us oldtimers already know what not to post unless it's by someone who has a change of tune.
Anyway, have fun, and learn! I do every day.
Redstate Bluegirl
(213 posts)to thank you personally, 'sister! I have read several posts of yours, and you are clearly IMHO a person who thinks--and thinks deeply--before posting. Your arguments (even the rare ones I disagree with) are always intelligently presented. I hope you don't feel intellectually raped, but I've already identified you as my mentor!
babylonsister
(172,710 posts)That is not something in my perview. Information that is available to anyone is not being raped. I spread info. I occasionally spread my opinion, but don't get confused and please don't consider the word 'rape' as a good descriptor.
Redstate Bluegirl
(213 posts)I didn't mean to offend you in any way, shape or form. I consider you to be ubercool!
babylonsister
(172,710 posts)You didn't offend me, ftr, and thanks. I flinch at the word 'rape', obviously. Glad you're here!
RainDog
(28,784 posts)funny - but this person set off some major negative vibes in me with her/his very first post - and that first post had nothing at all to say that was as obviously trollish as this -
so, I thought... maybe it's just that I don't want to interact with a 15 y/o on a message board b/c issues that I post or reply to are often issues that are about adults, not teenagers...
and just decided to ignore this person - not a "DU" ignore - just to not engage with him/her.
so now this a.m. I am reading this post.
and I still sort of don't know if this person is 15 or not (tho I doubt it), female or male, troll on purpose or b/c of inappropriate interactions with adults b/c of a lack of boundaries...
still, it's strange to come here and see that my initial "ick factor" intuition was true.

(213 posts)told two friends. One male, one female. Neither seems interested in politics. I wish I could chalk it up to being a relative newcomer to Texas, but to be honest the situation with my old friends back in Missouri was no different. Troubling to say the least.

(16,341 posts)I have been a long time lurker and member. In 4 years I have managed 200+ posts. I guess you can say I am not very verbose. This place did keep me sane during the boosh years. It is nice knowing that I was not the only one doing :facepalms .
The posters here are very bright every day I read, I learn. Besides that the Duzy Awards are the best.

(15,445 posts)You may not be able to vote, but you can influence the adults around you. And they do listen to what young people say.
Hold on to that excitement and put it to good use between now and November.
Volunteer at your local Obama campaign headquarters--even if it's only to stuff packets of voting materials or to enter IT data. Every pair of extra hands brings victory a little closer.
The results of this election will be crucial to yours and your friends' future.
Pres. Obama is trying to make things better for you-all and for his own daughters.
What if you and your young contemporaries manage to turn TEXAS blue?

(27,630 posts)It qualifies as one because it's not always a productive use of time.
There are a few people here who are very, very well informed about politics (and other fields, too) so there are plenty of learning opportunities.

(1,024 posts)Don't just read and post (important)...get out and "DU" or "do." in politics around you...
"DU"-ing will get more done and have more impact in the long run...support your local candidates...talk to friends about what they believe in and are passionate about....ask them to better consider how much politics affect their lives, and how their involvement can change the outcome of what politics actually do in their lives....
But what you read here should excite you to "DU" something about it...
I think there is a bumpersticker in there somewhere!

I'm glad you love it here. It only gets better...
