A St. Louis cop is caught on video, slamming his forearm across the face of a handcuffed teenage suspect.
Rory Bruce not only gets fired for the incident that took place last year, but ended up charged with assault - something you rarely see happen.
However, when Bruce stepped in front of the judge to be tried this week, the judge refused to watch the video that came from a surveillance camera from the back of a police transport vehicle.
As a result, Judge Theresa Counts Burke found him not guilty.
Judge Burke refused to tell KMOV-TV why she did not want to watch the strongest piece of evidence in the case against the former cop.
But the head of the police union, Jeff Roorda, who is also a Missouri state representative, fully agreed with her decision not to view the video because he believes videos should only be used to protect police, not hold them accountable.

(12,778 posts)In fact, I have several friends who are police officers, and they are great people. Are there bad cops? Of course, but to say that police are never your friend is simply not true.

Brazen, outright lying. Does he think we are blind ?
And the judge is even worse.
Disgusting.

So if some thug cop hits Jeff Roorda in the head and there's a video of it, it is best not to show the video because it makes the cop look bad. Got it. The people can film the cops without them even knowing it, and we have a lot more camera's than they do. I think it's time for the people to buy more hidden camera's that film exactly what cops do. If we're all carrying a camera other than a phone, it's tough for cops to find it, and when they do, it's too late if it's live.

(3,891 posts)Is the judge up for re-election? Or is she appointed? If appointed, she can be impeached. If elected, she can be defeated, and we should not forget. Even if she can't be impeached, charges for Judicial misconduct can be filed with the BAR association.
At the very least, Judicial Misconduct should be filed.
