When I lived in The Bay I used to go to Big Sur every chance that I could. And I used to smile when my friends boasted of their vacations in Hawaii. I think a number of the scenes in your video may have been taken at a restaurant/bar in The Sur known at The Nepenthe.

Nepenthe is located on the side of a mountain, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. There are a number of large California Wild Oak trees growing on the side of that mountain behind The Nepenthe, and attached to the Nepenthe bar is a rear deck for people to sit on, underneath those trees, while gazing out at the ocean. I was on that deck at dusk one evening in late August as I watched the sun set over the ocean in one quadrant of the sky, while at the same time a full moon rose over that same ocean in another quadrant of the sky. Alas, I do not think that there is a wide angle lens that could ever do justice to that image.

"With your silhouette when the sunlight dims
Into your eyes where the moonlight swims"

Bob Dylan, Sad Eyed Lady Of The Low Lands

That song was written by Dylan during the period of time when he was hanging at The Sur with then girlfriend, Joan Baez. The Nepenthe has been there since almost the beginning of time, and it occurred to me to wonder, after that sacred early evening experience of mine, if many years earlier, they together might have had the same experience as me. There are many other metaphors in that song that can also be attributed to The Sur and Ms Baez.

Today I am retired and living in Yosemite, but I would move to The Sur at the drop of a hat, if the opportunity ever presented itself unto me.

Except what's was the Golden Gate/Sausalito/Marin crap at the end?

Andrew Julian, you failed. I can give you 4, up to 6 hours of the most beautiful land and scenery on earth without leaving Big Sur.
