Suppose a small group of extremely wealthy people sought to systematically destroy the U.S. government by (1) finding and bankrolling new candidates pledged to shrinking and dismembering it; (2) intimidating or bribing many current senators and representatives to block all proposed legislation, prevent the appointment of presidential nominees, eliminate funds to implement and enforce laws, and threaten to default on the nations debt; (3) taking over state governments in order to redistrict, gerrymander, require voter IDs, purge voter rolls, and otherwise suppress the votes of the majority in federal elections; (4) running a vast PR campaign designed to convince the American public of certain big lies, such as climate change isn't occurring, and (5) buying up the media so the public cannot know the truth. Would you call this treason?

(113,131 posts)since corporations controlled by the rabid right started to buy up our media.
I've also said for a very long time that the GOP has devolved from a political party into an interstate racketeering organization whose stated aim is the destruction of the US government.

(2,140 posts)I've said the same things, many times...their complicity in,if not outright commission of crimes such as insider trading, money laundering, extortion, thefts of massive scales, war crimes, etc.,you know;the stuff everyone KNOWS they do,would more than satisfy the requirements for RICO proceedings against ANY other group doing just a fraction of the stuff they pull.
The fact that they're not pursued,as any other organized "crime family" has been, suggests to me that those who would/should be the ones to prosecute these criminal acts, don't because they're probably guilty too.Or are under the thumb of those who are. They're just not gonna open that can of worms to have it eventually and certainly turned on themselves.

(16,038 posts)purchased and serving in administrative cabinet positions who extoll the virtues of this small group of extremely wealthy people on things like, oh, I don't know....free trade? People who would disregard the wishes of the population who they were appointed to serve? Say...if...hypothetically, the labor secretary lobbied and railed for "free trade" aka exportation of US jobs...would that be treason Bob?...Hmm??
