McConnell says ‘Killed The Senate’ Will Be On Reid’s Tombstone

It was a reference to the minority leader's comment on the Senate floor Thursday morning that the tombstone of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) would say that he presided over the "end of the Senate" if the Democrat follows through with his threat to kill the filibuster.

Reid said Thursday he would set up test votes next week on seven executive nominations and threatened to change the filibuster rules if Republicans don't approve the nominations.

Harry can continue to let McConnell tie up the Senate in knots or he can do something about it. Reid is proposing very minimal changes only on executive nominations. That is the very least he should do.

Then, if McConnell continues to whine, then Reid should propose changing the entire filibuster rule so that the Party in power can get their agenda passed. After all, that is what the people voted for.

But, the fear that the extremists in the Republican Party may be in power in the next election and will use the rule to their advantage. That is the gamble that Reid must make.

However, if he should decide to change the entire filibuster rule, not just for executive nominations, then he should let it sunset every two years before the new Senate comes in. Then, if the Democrats blocked the Republican nominations, they would be justified in changing the filibuster rule also.

Otherwise, we can continue to do nothing.

4. Reprehensible that the Repubs are blocking everything, including executive nominations?

Or reprehensible that Reid would propose the change?

my strongest reaction is to the fact that the Senate minority leader referred to and tweeted a picture of the Senate majority leader's tombstone. He could have said "his legacy will be..." or he could have made his lame point in any number of other ways. To me, this is every bit as bad as the maps produced by Palin and others with crosshairs on them.

They said if all of shrubs judicial nominees were not voted for, they would stop the filibuster and so we are stuck with more right wing zealots. So, why is it OK for them, but not for the Dems? Because they are power hungry fucking hypocrites with no morals whatsoever and are out to really hurt the country is why this is happening.

he should act accordingly. Praised him for going to 51 vote approval of presidential nominees. How much of a threat are Mitch 'Corporate whore' McConnell's words. The Republicans have been engaging in political war since Obama took office. It's time Democrats dealt appropriately with the situation.

McConnell and all present GOPers are criminals and fanatics. You can't deal with them like rational people, anymore than you can expect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev to be rational. Tsarnaev and the GOPers are not rational. They are all extremists. You can't hope to run a rational government with terrorists on the inside.
