He assumed she would at least recognise the name if not the face. But she ordered him into the back of her car and took him to his hotel to check his story.
Then she radioed her older colleagues at the police station to ask if anyone knew who Bob Dylan was.
'I'm afraid we all fell about laughing,' .... I offered to bring in some of my Dylan albums. Unfortunately, she doesn't know what vinyl is either.'

C'mon that's Brit phraseology, not American English.

(10,039 posts)I had a British accent at one point when I was a kid. I lived in Tennessee at the time too.

(7,720 posts)also took on the affectation of a British accent. I knew she was born and raised in North Dakota. She was a waitress in a bar, so I would ask her which part of North Dakota her accent represented. She was from Grand Forks.

(22,541 posts)No American cop would ever, EVER say that. Much less about a 22-y/o rookie female cop. "Poor woman?" "Rather a lot of abuse?"

(20,783 posts)you are undoubtedly right. Despite the occasional American who adpots British phraseology, it is much more likely the quote was either rephrased or manufactured.

Not long after that, David Stern instituted a league-wide dress code...

(11,175 posts)It might have been Marshall Crenshaw, but I'm not sure. Whoever it was had a gig at a club. When he showed up, though, the flunky at the door wouldn't let him in, because he (unsurprisingly) didn't have a ticket.
Fortunately, the club was displaying a poster advertising the evening, with a picture of the featured performer. The musician pointed to it. On that basis the flunky relented and let him in.

(14,549 posts)this guy was walking toward me -- brown coat with a fur collar, wide brimmed hat, curly grey hair, kind of eccentric looking. My first thought was: "this guy looks like Bob Dylan"
I had just read "Chronicles" and he says in there that his off stage name is still Robert.
He got closer. It WAS Bob Dylan so I said "Good morning Robert."
He sort of grunted.

(10,237 posts)to attract the attention of law enforcement .Was he doing the Hokey Pokey ,was he profiled as a old creepy guy ?
I 'd be pissed off too and I'm certainly not Bob Dylan . No press is bad press .
