(97,629 posts)Guy or Girl from Massachusetts who expresses love by busting your balls. All others bow to them because they're jealous of their ruleitude. They talk fast, walk fast, drive fast, think fast and no one gets their sense of humor because it is dripping with sarcasm. WE are proud of it, because we know that the rest of the country is too plebeian to understand the complexity of awesome that is us.

Any Massachusetts driver who abides by the driving rules of Massachusetts highways (128, 93, 495, 3, and the Pike, but not West of Worcester). These rules are:
1) Never use your blinker.
2) If you want to change lanes, wait until there is someone to cut off
3) The speed limit is a guideline; it is the bare minimum you should go. Ideally, you should be going about 25-30 mph above it
4) No U-Turn signs are just a suggestion, you can bang a U-ie wherever you damn well please
5) Tailgating is mandatory if there is any traffic at all
6) One hand on the wheel, one hand on the horn
7) If you see someone with a Yankees sticker, ride up even closer on their tail
8) Change lanes frequently
A Masshole isn't a shitty driver. He may piss you off, but he ultimately gets there faster and without crashing. It's an acquired skill
He also is probably smarter than anyone from any other state, and yet still can drink like a true Irishman
The Masshole test is simple. Go down Route 3 from Braintree to the Sagamore Bridge. If you do it in under 30 minutes, you're a Masshole
Me: I made it from Boston to Hyannis in under an hour.

(20,905 posts)I've been there, for vacations with family while growing up, was that there were hardly ANY directions anywhere. We had no idea where the hell we were or how we were supposed to get to where we wanted to go half the time. We were told by several people that it was "just assumed that people knew where they were going" or things like that. It's funny now, but it sure wasn't then. Of course, that was back in '78 and '79, so I don't know if things have changed at all in that respect.
I also remember getting lost while we were walking, and walking past a school with a ton of "white power" and "niggers go away", etc., graffiti on the outer walls. Our parents had to explain to us what had recently been going on in the city and all of the racial tensions. Being a naive young teenager, I couldn't understand how such a "liberal" eastern city could have such attitudes and problems. Ah, the innocence of youth, lol.

I'm actually more outraged at the lack of professionalism on the cover. I covered crime for 12 years as a reporter. While the dude probably will take a plea, the fact is that he hasn't yet, so he's the ALLEGED bomber and a SUSPECTED monster.
Just sayin'...

(11,366 posts)The FBI has behaved horridly while investigating this case. Supposedly they interviewed the eldest brother several times, but then didn't know who he was so they had to show the pictures to the public to ID the brothers?
Then you have the mysterious shooting - including an execution-style head-shot - of the witness in Florida who may or may not have had something to do with the triple killing of Tamerlan Tsarnaev's friends in Boston.
And that charge against Dzhokhar Tsarnaev for causing bodily harm to police officer Richard Donohue as a result of the carjacking? What? Donohue was shot by friendly fire!
While MY personal jury is still out on this case - I tend to wait until a trial simply because I did used to cover trials and know that everything the prosecution says is not always accurate - I still believe there are too many inconsistencies to unravel before convicting anyone.

(20,166 posts)It was pounded into our heads in j school that it's always "alleged" and "suspected" etc. until a conviction is handed down.
But, then, most of what I was taught (and practiced for a while) about journalism is considered archaic and obsolete these days.

(11,366 posts)What we were taught is accurate and legally binding.
But, then again, we probably had editors who made us mind that legal line.

(31,464 posts)I've subscribed to Rolling Stone for years. It's supposed to come every couple of weeks or so...I don't even know anymore, because half the time it doesn't seem to come at all. It used to be that being a subscriber to a magazine meant that you had it first, before it even hit the newsstands. Now, I see this shit posted online and I don't even have my f**king magazine yet! What the hell am I pre-paying for, just to be treated like crap? Screw 'em. No point in renewing...except for that it will probably be impossible to get Amazon to take me off of auto-renew.

(45,319 posts)Not sure why the city would be pissed as he is called The Bomber and a monster right there on the cover. Some on DU have said he was fooled by his brother and should be seen as an innocent dupe. Rolling Stone calls him a monster. If that upsets Boston, Boston is not as sharp as I had thought.
graywarrior
(59,440 posts)On second thought....
Here's how we feel about it.

Bluenorthwest
(45,319 posts)with that?
This pretense that murders and terrorists are not put on magazine covers is absurd, this is a very common practice.
Read the things posted about him on DU after the bombing. He got loads of sympathy and all of that was because of his looks. Read the 'Why, why' posts and the long stories of his brother being a bully who forced him to kill because the brother was 'sexually frustrated' although the brother was a married man with a devoted wife and child. Pages about why the cute one HAD to be innocent and the other one the real bad guy.
If looks can kill they probably will.
