New York Mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner has admitted to another raunchy online sexual relationship with a young woman that went on for six months after he resigned in disgrace from Congress in a sexting scandal in 2011.Thedirty.com says Weiner used an anonymous handle Carlos Danger and exchanged sexually explicit photos and had XXX sex chats with the young woman.
The woman, using the handle Anonymous said of Weiner, The part thats most annoying is that I was 22 years old and in a bad place, but if anyone asked him he would say the same thing about himself, yet hes an adult.
.......
The site claims Weiner used the pseudonym Carlos Danger when he would email pictures of his penis via Yahoo. Which makes me believe Anonymous wasnt the only girl he was working.

I'm not declaring he did anything wrong, but he's married, and I can't imagine his wife being okay with this. He is seeking a career in public life, and this kind of private life usually doesn't jive with a promising public reputation. He needs psychological help.

Advocates with the pro-womens group, which has endorsed City Council Speaker Christine Quinn for mayor, held a press conference on the steps of City Hall today where they slammed the two redemption-seeking polls as anti-women.

(654 posts)When I grew up I learned a simple concept from my construction worker dad, if your word ain't worth shit then neither are you.
I like to think we are electing honest hard working people as our representatives to the government. It concerns me to discover that someone whose political viewpoint I agree with turns out to be a liar to his spouse. I don't expect people to be angels and I sure as hell don't care what you do in the privacy of your home, but I would like my representatives to be honest with me. If they are willing to break a vow or a commitment to someone they purport to cherish above all others I tend to doubt they will care very much about telling me a bunch of lies.
Maybe his wife doesn't care, but at the very least this behavior is poor judgment and at worst a continuing pattern of lies neither of which offers a strong recommendation for his candidacy.
I voted for Elizabeth Warren here in Massachusetts because I believed her to be an honest hard working individual, the same as I did for John Olver for years and for Richie Neal....I have no skin in the game for the NYC mayoral race, but I do believe the content of your character matters.
I'm not upset that you lied to me, I'm upset that from now on I can't believe you.

(26,549 posts)She may not care. AFAIK, she has not made any statements saying she cares.
There are women out there who would throw their husband out if he went to a strip club. There are other women who don't care where he goes, as long as he's not sleeping around. There's no reason for us to assume his wife is the former.
nil desperandum
(654 posts)I believe this article stated his wife forgives him.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-23428335
To forgive means that there was a wrong committed in the eyes of the person forgiving. If she did not care and it was acceptable there was no need to forgive.
I'd rather not be in a p1ssing match over semantics though, I understand your point to mean as long as he lies to his wife who doesn't mind his lies, you're okay with that and he makes a great leader for you.
If that's an incorrect assumption on my part, I have no idea why you would feel the need to respond as you did.
I like my leaders to not be liars where I can find them that way. It's far and few between, but it doesn't mean I can't at least look for a leader who has the politics I like, while also having a bit of character that doesn't involve lies.
It would appear lies are okay with you as long as you get the politics you want, I understand that something is better than nothing....but I think when we set the bar too low we get what we asked for. A government filled with corruption like the one we have in the Massachusetts state house where the position of speaker tends to end in indictment. I'd like to end that practice and have some speakers who end as honorable memories of decent men and women.
But I understand that's not important to you. Thanks for the heads up.
jeff47
(26,549 posts)For example, that he lied to her. She may have known about it. She may have never asked about it.
But hey, that would require taking a moment to realize other people are not exactly like you, which would get in the way of that high-horse.
nil desperandum
(654 posts)I don't assume she's exactly like me because I won't stay with a spouse who makes plans to put a lover in a condo while arranging sex and sending pictures of their privates to the potential paramour....
I made my comments because of what Huma said :
"It took a lot of work and a whole lot of therapy to get to a place where I could forgive Anthony," Abedin said. "It was not an easy choice in any way, but I made the decision that it was worth staying in this marriage."
Those don't sound like the words of a woman who was "okay" with any of it or knew about any of it.....perhaps the person who doesn't understand this is you because you don't mind his politics you don't mind his bad behavior.
I like his politics too, but I would like someone I intend to vote for to speak honestly about his intentions. If his past is filled with lies to his family I am concerned his future might be filled with lies as well.
If that means you think I am on a high horse, then we will have to agree that we don't see eye to eye here. I'm not convincing you that I am not a moralizing prude, and you're not convincing me that a man whose actions put his wife into therapy in order to forgive him is worthy of a vote.
Thanks, for the education it's been fun.

It was something personal they wanted to keep just between themselves and whatever third party that was recruited to engage in the behavior?
Now do you see the silliness in making someone's personal life a political issue?
It's nobody's business. If you don't want to vote for someone base purely on their non-criminal personal life, I would say that's ridiculous because where does it end? But it's your vote.
