Valencia oranges come from Florida. They are the kind used for orange juice and are difficult to cleanly peel. If someone wished to boycott a Florida product, it would be orange juice, not oranges. I think a boycott of Florida tourist attractions would mostly just harm the service employees and not anyone of consequence.

There's a valencia orange tree outside my window and I'm definitely not in Florida. The plant was developed in (naturally) Orange County, California.

The California crop tastes better, but I'm partial to blood oranges.

navel tree, a Vaencia tree, ruby red grapefruit, and two lemon trees in Arizona. The bulk of the navel oranges that show up in grocery stores are grown in California. The bulk of the orange juice in grocery stores come from oranges grown in Florida. I was not saying these types of oranges only grow in those states.

I made your first two points. I also made a point that if a boycott is wished for, then boycott OJ and not oranges, although I do not believe a boycott of Florida or its products is either needed, nor would it accomplish anything.

Here locally I could give quite a few examples of crap that goes on, but just use your imagination. Don't have the time to post it all. And I'm one who goes to City Council meetings (did) and also Commissioner's meetings.

but I'll rec your thread because I'm sick of this blaming one state. I WISHED one state with racist people was all we had to worry about. And, of course I don't mean the majority of Florida is racist.

They are everywhere. I live in Tennessee and there are plenty of racist here. Of all kinds.

We work to reduce them one at a time. Fortunately, a great majority are dying out from old age. Each generation is better than the one before. I believe that in my heart.

I hate what happened in the Zimmerman trial. I cried for young Trayvon over and over and couldn't understand why the jury didn't see what I saw. But, they made a decision and I don't hold that against the whole state of Florida.

I lived in Floridia for 6 months in 1971 when most "Floridians" were either in diapers or just a gleam in the eye. I self boycotted this state from 1971 until 2007 when because of circumstances had to move back. By that I mean I refused to come back here when my husband and daughter came to vacation. I STAYED HOME.

I hated this state in 1971, and now even more so having lived here for 6 years. I am an old woman now. I have told my husband and my children, that if I die and they bury me in Florida, I will come back and haunt them for the rest of their lives.

Does this tell you how I feel about Floriduh? I am going to assume that my feelings are far more extreme than anybody who has signed those boycotts.

You are barking up the wrong tree with me, Mr. Floridian. I will say the same as your post to YOU.

In the 1970s my part of Florida was a paradise, even if we did have to drive 50 plus miles to do anything other than basic shopping.

Too many people here now, especially when those who don't want to be here are.

This state has gotten weirdier and weirdier with each passing day. I started spelling is FLOR-EEE-DUH a long time ago. My husband was born in Tampa and is a native, but even he doesn't defend it.

I do recall a time some time back when Bob Graham was Governor, and things were much more normal. I was proud of him for not voting for the war and then didn't run for Senator again. I know he's still active because I recently got a petition from him, but I so wish he would start shaking some S--t out of the Democrats who have been elected here.

When Charlie Crist ran for Senate I voted for him and not the democrat because he was a DINO. Many got upset with me, but I will vote for Crist again. We MUST get rid of Scott and so many more. However, my representative in Congress is Vern Buchanan and he WILL get re-elected here. He's a crook and has been for so many, many years, but it seems even the Independents here keep this county extremely RED!
