(26,651 posts)It was a HUGE fuck you to McTurtle while invoking imagery of feisty grandmas with fresh baked apple pies or something.
Whatever it was, it struck so many chords at once, I am still processing the brilliance of the delivery.
TL;DR: Nailed it in one.
Spazito
(55,426 posts)it was an awwww time, its grandmothers after all, then it goes into Alison Grimes taking it to McTurtle head on and ending with finding out one of her grandmothers had died but her other grandmother is still there, still fiesty, still taking it to McTurtle just like her granddaughter.
I went from awwww to whoa to WOW by the end of it. It really is a brilliant ad in so many ways.

(489 posts)She looks very shrewd. That's great the Dems need someone who can play the republican political game especially
below the Mason Dixon line. I like how she subtlety plays the class card. Repubs have been so successful in telling
Dems and America that class warfare doesn't work meanwhile using it implode the middle class and making sure the
poor never get to the middle class. GO Grimes!

(345 posts)My parents were from KY. And to think I had a hard time choosing where I wanted to spend the remaining years of my life.
Now I know. I should have moved to KY, and I probably would have if I had known about Alison Grimes. Hang on, Senators Warren and Bernie Sanders - help is coming. (I also hold on to the hope that Senator Franken will come alive and join the fray).
I saved your ad. I put it on a CD. It is on my phone. It is also in my heart.

(22,271 posts)I loved BOTH of those -- and the grandmas . . . THE GRANDMAS! "Let's see, what rhymes with Mitch?"
Grits, you got my attention with this one.
Following a terrible financial patch the last few years I'll FINALLY be able to make some donations in 2014 (YAY!). In my Congressional district, either the Democrats don't run anyone or they run a sacrifice candidate that no one has ever heard of and who doesn't even campaign. I think Boxer's up again this year and I'm sure I'll kick in some bucks for her but she's pretty much a shoe-in. I'm looking for Congressional and Senatorial candidates in other areas/states to donate to. We're not talking huge amounts of money here but I know every little bit helps.
And if we can change Mitch McConnell's seat to a GOOD Democrat? Oh, hell yes!

(1,005 posts)and I'd love to see McConnell get the boot, but looking at her website tells me she is no way near being a progressive. But then, maybe a progressive couldn't win in Kentucky? I'll still send her some money just to spite the chief obstructionist.

(117 posts)I don't live in Kentucky although we did for a year. But I will send her a donation because we need good people like her in the Senate. McConnell has never had the good of his State or his Country at heart. All he cares about is his warped idea of what is good for Republicans. Well, there is more to life than Republicans' needs so let's get behind this lady. She is just what we need.
Demoiselle
(6,787 posts)I'm speaking off the top of my head, here, but it occurs to me that many Democrats in Kentucky are probably older...harking back to all those wonderful New Deal, Fair Deal days......so presenting those two beautiful older relatives as her supporters is very smart.
Beside the fact that Mitch is a festering wound that needs to be permanently lanced.

Sadly, Mitch will quickly be dragging her through the mud with lies and slurs;
a stupid turtle grin upon his filthy face.

(13,956 posts)I still think Ashley Judd would have done better, and she would not morph into a DLC type once in office. Still, Mitch does need to go, so I applaud this.
