Must ALL Republicans be assholes?

A county Republican Party chairman in New Jersey had some harsh words this week for Hispanic labor leader Milly Silva, the newly tapped running mate of the state's Democratic candidate for governor.

“Poor thing,” Jose Arango, the chairman, said of Silva, who is the executive vice president of labor union SEIU 1199. “It’s like picking my secretary. She’s a very nice person. The union likes her, but even in the union she’s vice president. She hasn’t been a committeewoman."

Arango added, "It’s like the guy in CVS with no expertise who suddenly gets promoted to pharmacist. It’s like the guy saying, ‘I work at CVS, I can be the pharmacist.'"

Silva is relative unknown in New Jersey politics, but she has a long history of organizing immigrant workers, women, minorities and low-income wage earners. She graduated from Columbia University, becoming the first in her family to hold a college degree, and is now a leader of an organization that represents the health care workers at 7,000 nursing homes. Barbara Buono, the Democratic nominee for governor, presumably tapped Silva as her running mate to energize female and minority voters and unionized workers. ......................(more)

They don't let you into the party unless you can prove you're a heartless fuckbag. You probably have to supply a video of yourself kicking orphans or shoving old ladies into traffic.

They just can't seem to help themselves. They're like the mean kids in high school that never grew out of it.

Should we attempt to deny the leopard it's spots? The zebra it's stripes? The water it's wetness?

There are things that are elemental, and cannot be altered by the will of man.

I actually have a few Republican relatives and co-workers who certainly are misguided in how they vote, but are not assholes. Some of them are nice, others are just, meh.

1. You see an elderly woman waiting to cross the street. She is carrying a grocery bag in one hand and a cane in the other. What will you do?

a. Offer to carry her groceries and help her cross the street.
b. Give her a ride to her home and put her groceries away for her.
c. Trip her with her cane, shove her in front of a bus and take her groceries.

2. An old man wearing a tattered army uniform jacket comes up to you and asks you for a few dollars so he can get something to eat. You:

a. Give him $10 and thank him for his service.
b. Tell him to fuck off and get a job.
c. Take him to McDonald's for a burger and fries and offer him a job at your place of employment.

3. You see a little boy who is crying because his puppy ran away. You:

a. Tell him you just ran over his puppy with your car, and to stop bawling about it.
b. Tell him you are very sorry and you hope he finds his puppy.
c. Offer to make some lost puppy posters and put them up for him.

Correct answers: 1, c; 2, b; c, a. Any other answers will disqualify you from membership in the Republican Party.
