Wed Jul 31, 2013, 07:15 PM
Jul 2013

Hatred of fellow citizens who own guns (nut jobs, humpers, etc), christians labeled as evil/haters/etc (and some sure are), smokers, people who drink big sodas or eat fast food, etc and so on.

Point here being is how a group is labeled and gone after because of what a few in that group do - all in an attempt to villify a group and make them more socially unacceptable (ie shaming people into changing who they are).

Our culture right now is one of fear of others - well, fear of other citizens. We are all potential terrorists right now - and both parties are implicated in that from the patriot act down to current NSA.

"See something, Say something" , arresting people for taking photos, bailing out the wealthy (hating on the poor), not even trying for single payer.

Point is here - Even on DU - we see that both parties are not doing what is in our best interest and are trying to pit us against each other and they always seem to favor the powerful and wealthy.

We do need to clean house come election time, and to see the names, just keep reading DU, they pop up often enough.

31. The point I was trying to make
Wed Jul 31, 2013, 07:34 PM
Jul 2013

was that while it is more common on the right to try and hold down people, there are politicians on both sides of the isle that will do anything and say anything for votes. Behind closed doors, most politicians will do anything to stay in power and hold down we the people in the process. The right wing does it more often, and would be more likely to grow into a party like the nazis, but it is more of a political ideology than a party one.

Widespread violence was a major factor in the rise of Nazism in Germany.

The policies in America that mirror the worst policies of the WWII era are:
Intrusive secret police system (DHS, FBI, NSA...)
Terry Stops
Secretly spying on peace groups, Occupy Wall street...
Arresting people for being unable to produce identification
Collusion between the military industrial complex and politicians
Road blocks
Criminalizing protests (free speech zones, declaring unlawful assemblies...)

Throwing the Nazi card around is the reason we can't have serious discussions about the creeping fascism in American politics. The terms have been so long since reduced to general epithets that any attempt to legitimately call out the building blocks of fascism get met with eye rolls and mocking.

But since we brought up the Nazis, if there's no claim to Aryan superiority, it cannot be Nazism.

Even before 1933, there is no good comparison. Yes, the R's are assholes but they are NOT that bad. Yes, occasionally one of their supporters gets violent or says something stupid about Muslims in public, but they are many many years away from comparable.

You need to read extensively how much political violence went on in Germany pre-1933.

29. "We Demand" -Nazi propaganda, 1927
Wed Jul 31, 2013, 07:33 PM
Jul 2013
Background: The following essay was published in the fourth issue of Der Angriff, dated 25 July 1927. Goebbels makes a general attack on the government without being very clear as to just what policies should be followed. It is typical of his general style during the early years of his activity in Berlin.

The source: “Wir fordern,” Der Angriff, Aufsätze aus der Kampfzeit (Munich: Zentralverlag der NSDAP., 1935), pp. 18-19.

We Demand

by Joseph Goebbels
The German people is an enslaved people. Under international law, it is lower than the worst Negro colony in the Congo. One has taken all sovereign rights from us. We are just good enough that international capital allows us to fill its money sacks with interest payments. That and only that is the result of a centuries-long history of heroism. Have we deserved it? No, and no again!
