EAST COUNTY The father of two missing siblings issued an emotional plea Tuesday night to the man suspected of kidnapping one or both of them and urged his daughter to run from her abductor if she could. A $1 million arrest warrant was issued Tuesday for James Lee DiMaggio, 40, of Boulevard, who is suspected of killing his longtime friend Christina Tina Anderson, 41, of Lakeside, and a child. Their bodies were found in the burned ruins of DiMaggios home Sunday night.
The child has not been identified, but sheriffs homicide Lt. Glenn Giannantonio said it could be the body of Ethan Anderson, 8. His sister, Hannah Anderson, 16, is missing. But Giannantonio reiterated that authorities are holding out hope that Ethan is out there alive. It will take two or three days for DNA testing to identify the charred body.
The childrens father, Brett Anderson, in a brief statement at sheriffs headquarters Tuesday night, addressed Hannah and DiMaggio directly and spoke of the loss of his ex-wife.
Jim ... let my daughter go, he said. Youve taken everything else.
He told his daughter, Hannah, if you have a chance, you take it, you run.
Giannantonio said the father had flown to San Diego on Tuesday from his home in Tennessee....Giannantonio said Tuesday night there have been no confirmed sightings of DiMaggio, or the vehicle he may be in, described as a blue, four-door Nissan Versa with California license plate 6WCU986. He could be anywhere in the U.S. or in another country, the lieutenant said.
We are looking everywhere, he said.
...He said DiMaggio is considered extremely dangerous and likely armed....
Firefighters found Andersons body after they doused a blaze that destroyed DiMaggios house and detached garage on Ross Avenue, south of Old Highway 80, about 8 p.m. Sunday. The childs body and that of a dog were found later....
The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla said on Tuesday that DiMaggio works there in a technical support position. On his LinkedIn web page, DiMaggio describes his job at Scripps as a telecommunications technician, with skills in troubleshooting, problem-solving, and database administration.

(14,040 posts)and didn't appreciate Hannah's neglect. I'm guessing Hannah had words with her mother about "Uncle Joe" and mom confronted him... hence the fire and the kidnapping. The good old, if I can't have her...
GiaGiovanni
(1,247 posts)My guess is that the child Ethan is who they found in the garage after the fire. DiMaggio burned down the house with both of them in it after kidnapping the girl. We can only hope that the girl is still alive.
Interestingly, the fire department had let the house burn down on Sunday night. They didn't think there was anyone in it. Also, it apparently took the fire dept time to get out there. I'm not sure of the whole story. Nadin was listening to the police scanner that night and mentioned the house burning.

(1,247 posts)This has really been awful. I was online with Nadin when the actual fire was happening Sunday night. The area they're from, near El Centro, is a very rural, poor kind of area and there's a long fire response time back there. The firefighters let the house burn out thinking that no one was in it. It was only after the house caved in and the fire died down that the firefighters realized there had actually been people in there. I was up late with Nadin when we found that out.
The house belonged to DiMaggio and the dead adult was the mother of the girl who has been kidnapped. There is a child's body in the garage, and they are doing DNA tests to see if it is the girl's brother. If it is, it is quite possible that Di Maggio go them all to his house, killed them mother and son, took the daughter, and burned the house down to cover his tracks for a bit.
The girl is in danger of her life if this is the case. That's why it is so important to spot the car. If they were spotted in Oregon, they may be headed to Canada.

and that is one of the worse things about it. There's so very little that you really CAN do. At least in this case, it's a big news item. So that means more people will be watching. Which is really the only good news about this case that I've heard.
Sadly, most missing person cases don't generate anything even to close to this much attention, at least outside the local area where a person goes missing,

unless there's some breaking news, I can feel this story being put on the back burner soon.
Although I have not physically assisted in actual searches for missing people. I have worked with many people who have, and in conjunction with my serial murder research for my website, I know way more than I wish I did know about missing person cases, and one of the saddest moments is when the missing person case gets put on the back burner. That's because, unless a miracle happens, they will never be found alive.
Some people believe that at least 1,000,000 people go missing (some are not even reported) every year. More than 80% of that number either return, or are found within 30 days. That leaves us roughly 100,000 people a year who go missing for more than 30 days. More than 80% are considered runaways or are a direct result of custodial disputes, but that still leaves about 10,000 people that are never found and most of those are under the age of 18:
National Center for Missing & Exploited Children:
http://www.missingkids.com/home
Missing person cases are one of the biggest problems that almost no one knows about. It is very rare when a missing person case becomes this newsworthy. That is just so sad in so many ways,

or out camping. Hannah may not even know her mother and brother are dead, especially if they're far enough out so she can't use her phone... there is a lot of desert out in Southern California, it's the gate way to Death Valley.
LE (Law Enforcement) is now saying he might have explosives, which might mean they probably found explosives in the house, which means the fire might have been triggered to explode with a phone call, after the getaway. Just speculating.
I still have this unshakebly bad feeling about the father though.
d

GiaGiovanni
(1,247 posts)Have you found anything that would lead you to believe he is involved?
AmyStrange
(7,989 posts)-
I remember seeing Susan Smith live on TV pleading for her kids, and I got the same feeling then that I'm getting now when I saw the father plead too. Some people said it was an emotional speech, but I didn't see it.
I just hope I'm wrong, but (AND THIS IS PURE SPECULATION) if he did it, and they never find either the car or either Hannah or her suspected kidnapper, it could be the perfect crime (END OF SPECULATION)
d
-
AmyStrange
(7,989 posts)-
AND AGAIN, I hope I'm wrong, but (AND THIS IS PURE SPECULATION) it's interesting he didn't tell his son to run. Even some reporters wondered about this too. Two dead bodies, one is identified right off that it's the mother, but the child can't be identified without DNA test (which normally takes about 2 to 3 days). Somebody identified the mother, but nobody has identified the child, but the father seems to know. It's an interesting thing that nibbles at my head.
Another, is this report about the possibility he (DiMaggio) has explosives. One way they could have deduced this is if they found explosive making material at his house, maybe the fire was started with a small explosion, set off by a timer or maybe even a cell phone call. I can see DiMaggio wanting to delay the finding of the bodies for a better chance of getting away, but I can also see it being used by someone who wanted to set it off far away while they had an alibi, setting in motion the current set of circumstances.
And finally, what DiMaggio's sister said. I have read hundreds and hundreds of interviews of relatives of serial murderers and their neighbors too, and I really don't ever remember (I may be wrong here) any of them ever saying the murderer was "sweet". I think I even remember one of DiMaggio's neighbors (I may be wrong here too) saying he was "sweet" too. All those other murderers have been called quiet, helpful, polite, always says hi, helped me with my car one day, but never "sweet".
(END SPECULATION)
I just hope I'm wrong,
d
-
GiaGiovanni
(1,247 posts)Of course, he may have had better info from the police than the public did. Hard to tell.
To speculate heavily for a moment, if the father were guilty, would the daughter be running from him with DiMaggio trying to save her? How would the father set up explosives from Tennessee?
Also, I wonder what the boy was doing in the garage.

two hours north of Boise is about 50 miles south of where the Idaho, Washington and Oregon Border come together.
It's also around 250 miles from Canada, but in order to get into Canada, somewhere along the line, you have to cross Interstate 90.
I'm not exactly sure how fast you can travel 250 miles in that area on horseback, so I really can't make any predictions as to how long it would take to get to Canada from there,

connects Spokane with Missoula, these are the two largest cities around there, next to Boise which is to the South.
If they're going to Canada, they would have had to cross over Interstate 90. This is a major highway that connects Seattle with Boston. Some smaller towns and secondary highways to the North of that, but most of the area looks Mountainous and scarcely populated. To the East are the Rocky Mountains in Montana, and also the Glacier national Park, and of course Canada is North too,
