Aiming to educate diners about a womans right to breastfeed in public, a group of about 20 women staged a "nurse-in" Wednesday at a Chick-fil-A in Knoxville, Tennessee. Thats where, earlier in the week, an employee had asked a mother nursing her 5-month-old daughter to stop.
"Just as I was finishing up, an employee came up and told me other parents were afraid of letting their children play while I was feeding her, especially without a cover," mom Jennifer Day told ABC News 6 in Knoxville. So she rallied other lactating pals, who decided the protest would be an effective way of letting folks know that the state law which allows women to breastfeed anywhere, public or private, where they are "otherwise authorized to be present" is on the moms side.

Disgraceful that we are going backwards in time.

(3,724 posts)They were worried about their kids playing without her being covered - I honestly don't know how to interpret that. Just calling them bad mothers doesn't seem to cover it, although I don't disagree with the characterization.

(4,291 posts)Only in the bedroom, in the dark, under the covers. I don't have a problem with women who bottle feed, but breasts are on a woman's body for a reason...wait for it......to feed children. I am not a breast feeding is for everyone woman, lots of women can't do it or do not want to for may reasons, but women who get shitty about a breast feeding mom are just bad mothers.

(8,038 posts)so I have to ask: are children generally allowed "to play" in a restaurant where people are eating?
If so, I'd be more worried about a kid upending a plate of food or banging into a table, than being traumatized by the sight of a nursing mother and child.
