If you want the whole story about the American Airlines proposed merger and consumer impact

get it here. Listen to the entire discussion and see what both side of the issue are about. In this case, the Justice Department is clearly on the side of the consumer to the chagrin of AA stock holders and employees. It's a great discussion and Diane is a supper interviewer. Bookmark it and listen later if you have to but please do listen to it.

...the argument from there isn't making a lot of sense if there could be some concessions on routes etc

Can't recall it verbatim, but it was something like "our first priority is to give our customers the best value, and the government's action today will prevent us from doing that."

It was such cynical bullshit that I nearly lost my grip on the steering wheel for all the vomiting.

Years ago I managed a restaurant. One of the employees was a 15 year old girl whose father abused her. She ran away one day, and he showed up at the restaurant with the cops, looking for her.

"All I want is to take my little girl home, where she's safe," he said.

I am reminded of his tone every time I hear a smiling corporate stooge pitch the corporate propaganda in advance of screwing the customers.
