I'm trying to determine if the sick antics were more anti-Democratic Party than racism. I don't know!

(4,407 posts)The whole broom thing would have been a colonoscopy.
Now if Herman Cain had been president, it would have had to be something about pepperoni...

(12,723 posts)The clown's routine may or may not have been racist. The people in the audience shouting kill the n------- they were pretty fucking racist.

(8,556 posts)Of course Powell isn't the best example. Nowadays Allen West and Herman Cain are more conservative than Powell is.
But I gotta ask. If this were 2003 would DU be all that concerned about a clown in a Bush mask? I wouldn't be.
I actually think it's less about party and race and more about the president being an easy target. Remember the Reagan humor in the 80s? Dana Carvey as H-Dub? All the Clinton-Lewinsky stuff? All the Bush jokes?
While this particular rodeo clown probably wouldn't have tried to get laughs off of President Cain, it's not like the left would be giving him quarter.

(15,558 posts)Maybe the clown will extend the joke and tell about all of the participants, now that would be funny.

(13,598 posts)This is about leaping to conclusions without evidence.
Because of that, all we can tell from a poster's post is what sort of conclusions that poster leaps to in the absence of evidence, not what conclusion is actually correct.

(36,974 posts)That question seems simple, and well founded, to me.

(9,397 posts)he was treated when he was s.o.s. I still get out my head that time he was on meet the press and his assistant kept trying to stop the interview. I've never seen anything like that in my 53 years on earth (well my 37 years of giving a damn, first 18 I was either too young or too high to care) it was unreal.

(65,616 posts)Seriously, think about it. How many rodeo clowns have you EVER heard of that make political statements by dressing up as the POTUS?

(34,676 posts)The far right teabag wing would be furious with him, and his race would play into the level of disrespect. The far, far left tends to be unusually disrespectful of president Obama for the same reasons.

(2,667 posts)Kitty is the great grand mother of two of my grand daughters, maternal side. She is a black woman of about 85 years - give or take. Back after Powell gave his UN speech, one of the lowest hours in this countries history, here is what Kitty had to say about Powell - I remember it word for word, clear as a bell, because everyone in the room just broke out laughing - shes said "That black man's been white so long the Republicans don't even notice anymore".
