http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-08-14/food-stamp-cut-backed-by-republicans-with-voters-on-rolls.htmlAmong the 254 counties where food stamp recipients doubled between 2007 and 2011, Republican Mitt Romney won 213 of them in last years presidential election, according to U.S. Department of Agriculture data compiled by Bloomberg. Kentuckys Owsley County, which backed Romney with 81 percent of its vote, has the largest proportion of food stamp recipients among those that he carried.
. . .
More than half of the Owsley Countys population -- 52 percent -- received food stamps in 2011, the most recent yearly number available. The county, which in 2012 was 97.6 percent non-Hispanic white and had 4,722 residents, had a median household income of $19,344, well below the Kentucky median of $42,248 and the $52,762 figure nationally, U.S. census data shows. Roughly four in 10 residents live below the poverty line.

(30,058 posts)Share of crazy here. It makes me sick to see many GOP's speaking about our poor and all the time they are trying to get more money in the pockets of the much higher income folks. Good luck on your state election.

(13,778 posts)Very conservative, fundamentalist mentality here. They vote "anti-abortion" even though it will mean more abortions because of lack of sex education and unaffordable birth control.
They vote for those who will shift their earnings to the top 1%, provide them with only occasional part-time jobs with no benefits, reduce Food Stamps and prevent them from getting affordable health care, etc.

(30,058 posts)Is not in their best interest to do so. I have family members doing the same, the candidate only needs to say they are against abortion and they get the vote. It does nit seem to register the GOP wants to force births but does not want to contribute any money to food or shelter of the same babies they force the mothers to have. No abortion for the unborn but let them starve without shelter.
