Marriage is Free Expression, Whatever Your Orientation

Yes, the rumors are true. Yours truly has tied the proverbial knot, and on Valentine's Day, no less. I can't help but feel optimistic that love will endure - not just for us, but for same-sex couples battling for acceptance of the same freedom my wife and I enjoy.

It occurred to me, as I was preparing to get married, why so many people disapprove of same-sex marriage. It's not because gay and lesbian couples pose any kind of threat to the "institution" of marriage or to the rights of opposite-sex couples. It's because some folks don't want to recognize same-sex relationships as the real thing. As legit. They have no faith in such unions ... which is precisely why they should never enter into one. But should they be allowed to stifle another person's faith, hope and love?
