Wed Aug 21, 2013, 09:57 PM
Aug 2013

it is being done as a statement, not for any other reason. I really don't care about OC, I see people doing it once in a while and it doesn't bother me; it's just not my carry choice.

Actions like this are done to garner attention. The argument is to educate the public. Unfortunately the side affect of such education is it makes the person doing it, and by extension all gun owners, look like an ass. As can be seen in this thread and many others, the take away is that this is a typical gun owner, not a member of the far fringe.

But there are tons of other offensive , but perfectly legal things out there.
Huge trucks blowing exaust on purpose on my lil car because I don't go fast enough. I almost choked once because I had the windows down
Or people smoking ciggies in casinos right next to me. Or fundy xtians trying to preach to me through their bull horns. All annoying but perfectly legal.
People tend to display or want to make a statement about the things they care for.

To each their own.

noise ordinances apply to them, so they are illegal but... I'm sure you know the rest of the story. And many times I would like to pour a drink on the cig that the person is holding more over my machine than theirs, with the smoke coming right in my face

But if a person wants to make a statement, consider whether it has a net positive or negative effect. He could carry a S&W mod 29 and more than half would not notice. The rest might stop and think, but a revolver in a holster is far less intimidating so near everyone will accept it if not agree with it.

edit add> I do agree it is not illegal and by leaving when asked, no laws were broken. It is more a matter of just because you can do it does not mean you should

you said in Post #32:

I would ask them to leave.
He left, so what's the problem? It becomes trespassing only if someone refuses to leave.

and I said you sounded like Rand Paul. Do you want to know why I said that?

This is why.
Especially this:
MADDOW: Do you think that a private business has the right to say we don't serve black people?

PAUL: Yes. I'm not in favor of any discrimination of any form. I would never belong to any club that excluded anybody for race. We still do have private clubs in America that can discriminate based on race.

But I think what's important about this debate is not written into any specific "gotcha" on this, but asking the question: what about freedom of speech? Should we limit speech from people we find abhorrent? Should we limit racists from speaking?
Do you not see that you are using an argument that Rand Paul has used? You are defending this guy.

Me asking "a" black person to leave my store is not the same as asking "all" black people to stay out of my store.

A business owner has the perfect right to ask any person to leave. He or she does NOT have the right to ask all persons of a certain race or ethnicity or sexual orientation or whatever to leave.

And you're right, neither are safe for the public. Leave your paranoia at HOME. Let them kill their own family members by "accident", and never see a day in jail.

There have been other cases in WalMart where a gun fell from some assholes pants, and it fired hitting an INNOCENT woman. Are you prepared to get sued or go to jail for killing an INNOCENT person just because YOU had a mishap with your gun? I personally don't want to take that chance. Taking your gun into WalMart is lame. This "man" is lame. Only cowards need their guns to go everywhere with them.

But your the type that reads it the way YOU want to see it.
It's literal, you are NOT entitled to own a god damned machine gun.
I dont care what a bunch of idiots on the SC say.

As passed by the Congress and preserved in the National Archives:[32]

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

As ratified by the States and authenticated by Thomas Jefferson, then-Secretary of State:[33]

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed

What part of "a well regulated militia" dont you understand?

If I were a Open Carry supporter (which I am not) I'd want to smack the stupid out of this moran for making the gun control debate that much more difficult to defend in support of open carry.

Thankfully for those of us with the intelligence to realize that guns are fu*king stuipid, we have this guy.

It must be horrible to go through life so constantly afraid - I'm thinking a psychiatrist and the right medication would do more for him than his prosthetic penis does.

This just reinforces my belief that anyone who thinks they need a carry permit should be required to take the MMPI and have at least one session with a counselor to discuss the results.

In the long run perhaps if you join their cult. I hope we can change this stupid law. I hope for the grand prize. That prize is NO GUNS for everyone. The reason to arm was to fight the British government. I haven't seen any Red Coats for a while now. Can you fight the government today with your gun against their tanks, or their nukes. So we really don't need guns, we need the right to have a nuke in every yard. Armed is armed right.

That's why he had someone with a video camera taping him. It wasn't for "his safety" it was to make it appear as though his rights were being violated. What these people don't understand is the 2nd Amendment allows for regulations.

Entering a store with a gun in plain sight is irresponsible. Regardless of whether he left when asked he did this to get attention and intimidate others.

There is no excuse for walking into a store with a large gun slung over your back except to intimidate others. The fact that he had a camera with him should tip you off that it's all about him getting attention. The three workers at Wal-Mart handled it pretty well in my opinion. All of them stayed calm and just asked him to leave. Stores and malls which are private property should in my opinion make it clear unconcealed weapons are not welcome.

It's intimidation and he did it on private property. He knew he was going to get kicked out. Now if you agree with such a silly stunt like that (which is exactly what it was) then you don't take the right to bear arms seriously. If he had walked in there with a concealed weapon under his jacket it wouldn't have drawn attention. Attention is exactly what he was looking for.

And those stores that allow nuts like this into their stores should be boycotted.

knowing the guy defenders. The other thing would be those with PTSD could be affected as well. With as many shootings that have occurred and as many people have served in the military there would be a pretty high chance someone suffering from PTSD could have been there when he was walking through the store. What if that person had freaked out beyond their control due to past circumstances. People would have gotten hurt.

This isn't the first time this has happened. Remember awhile back there was the guy in the J.C. Pennies store with a similar type of weapon. How many times will this happen before something serious goes wrong.

I don't know if Wal-Mart has signs up, but they (and other retailers and malls) should make it clear they are not welcome.

To something that can kill or cripple? Freedom of speech is different. Granted, I don't want to hear the fundies either, but I laugh at them. I can walk away and not hear them and be safe, I can not out run a bullet. And I hope we do amend the constitution the minute we get a Dem majority in the house. LOL! Hopefully CCW will be a thing of the past. I want the whole enchilada, but I'll settle for no guns on the street. Keep them home where they belong, so you can kill you own family.

I'm unsure about the law in the US.
Would people like this, who think this is "normal behavior" or want to see it as "normal behavior", accept it as "normal behavior" if, say, 15 or so punks wearing gang colors did the same? Is there any limit to the outrageous provocation (and threat!) allowed?

When standing and walking it's pointed to the ground at an angle, but that angle gets a lot shallower when he's bending over or leaning to the side while looking at merchandise.

Add to that the fact that he didn't remove the magazine, and damn right people "freaked" (by which he means "calmly asked him to leave the premises&quot .

Men who openly carried guns at Culver's accept settlement

Citations dropped for five who carried guns at Culver’s

A group of men who drew police attention for openly carrying guns at a Far East Side restaurant last year on Tuesday accepted a $10,000 offer from the city of Madison to settle their federal civil rights lawsuit against the city and a group of police officers.

The five men, members of Wisconsin Carry Inc., were ticketed for disorderly conduct on Sept. 18, 2010, after police were called to Culver's, 4301 East Towne Blvd., about a group of men with guns at an outdoor table. The tickets were later dismissed.
