General Discussion

Everyone needs to go out to their social media, email lists, and the corporate media websites, and post the following two questions.
1. Why would Syria's Assad invite United Nations chemical weapons inspectors to Syria, then launch a chemical weapons attack against women and children on the very day they arrive, just miles from where they are staying?
2. If Assad were going to use chemical weapons, wouldn't he use them against the hired mercenary army trying to oust him? What does he gain by attacking women and children? Nothing! The gain is all on the side of the US Government desperate to get the war agenda going again.
US trained and equipped forces are already across the border into Syria, and US naval forces are sailing into position to launch a massive cruise missile attack into Syria that will surely kill more Syrians than were claimed to have died in the chemical attack.
Obviously, we cannot stop this madness. The US Government is listening to the war hungry Israel Lobby and MIC and cares not what the American people think.
But what We The People can do, must do, is send a message to the world that we do not believe the war-starting lies by the US Government. We know this is a repeat of the same lies we were told about Saddam's nuclear weapons.
The US Government is lying, and people are dying.
Send a message to the world that the American people do not support this latest aggression, and we will not stay silent while more innocents are murdered.

(22,000 posts)We'll see if someone actually counters with a response as one juror suggested. It was only up for about 8 mins before it was reported.
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Sat Aug 24, 2013, 09:24 AM, and the Jury voted 3-3 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: No explanation given
Juror #2 voted to HIDE IT and said: "Israel Lobby" conspiracy talk. Nah.
Juror #3 voted to HIDE IT and said: This does sound like a CT. With the low post count MIRT might want to take a look at pizza delivery.
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: The poster didn't say the US government was using chemical weapons, only supplying them. Further, when you've been lied to several times, re Gulf of Tonkin, repeat several times since, suspecting another lie is not conspiracy theory; it's here we go again.
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: Opinion. Counter it with a response.
Juror #6 voted to HIDE IT and said: No explanation given
"Israel Lobby" conspiracy talk. Nah.
Ever heard of AIPAC? No bigger lobby in DC.

(13,812 posts)Seems only a day or two ago Israel was telling the US not to cut off funds to the murderers in Egypt.
Or was that "asking for trouble" too?

(7,847 posts)For all we know it could have been staged to justify military action.
I agree it sounds fishy, especially with the timing and location.

(101,852 posts)1)From a strategic standpoint I don't think Israel wants us to remove the Assad regime. As long as they are attacking each other they aren't attacking them. not that Syria is any kind of threat in the first place.
2) I'm opposed to bombing Syria unless it can be proven the bombing will lead to a better outcome.

(14,656 posts)deserves our strict attention. With what we were told in the lead
up to going into Iraq there's nothing wrong questioning what's
going on.

Think about the history of the CIA on South America.

(43,049 posts)that it would have been incredible stupidity on Assad's part to have done this and possibly bring the US in with UN approval.
The open question is, then-- if not Assad, who? Nobody seems to know, but it's a good guess it's someone who wants to bring the rest of the world in, unless it was a mistake on the part of one of his more assholish underlings.
But, whoever it is, it's someone with no regard for human life or decency. I can't believe any government would stoop this low no matter how craven we would like to think it is, but we know of some groups who revel in blood.
