There is something happening here, I think we should listen.

Last edited Mon Aug 26, 2013, 11:15 PM - Edit history (1)

I feel change in the air. It feels like forces are aligning. I believe in some cosmic universe there has been a shift. A movement. A beginning.

Three huge issues are front and center right now. Women's Rights, Voting Rights, Gay Rights, all about our Civil liberties and our right to choose. The Republicans have slammed us in the face and our hearts continuously for the past four plus years. They have maligned us, they have abused us, ridiculed us and taken away our basic right of Life Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. May God forgive them because I can not.

Since Obama was elected, twice, the hate and vitriol from the right has become deafening. They want to destroy everything that has made this Nation great. They want to tear down our right to dignity and choice. They are a party and a people, that is so out of control, that their only wish is to divide and destroy us.

Yet what I am seeing is the quite sound of change. It started softly, yet now I hear a rumble. It is getting louder by the day. People are standing up. They are taking each others backs. This is a fight for all of us, not a single group but all of us together.

Our voices in 2014, collectively can make this change. We need to get out in force. This may well be one of the most important votes in our lifetime. Stand up and be heard.

My sig line. This is what I believe.

You know something, our colors are getting brighter and bolder every single day! It is the color of change and it's beautiful~~~

The Color of Things "A man's character always takes its hue, more or less, from the form and color of things about him." - Frederick Douglass

to a great degree, which is why those movements lived on while the other went and got a job on Wall Street. Each day on DU I see people straining to find ways to be 'confused' about transgender people so they can divide us all up, I see them constantly degrade and dismiss GLBT posters, our questions are not answered, our concerns are mocked as 'wanting a pony' and the bulk of DU seems like it would very easily turn on us in a heartbeat. Not to mention the horrific things I have read about other groups, 'Latin America is but a cyst on the anus of the world' is a real winning way to make community with our Latino siblings, but that was said on DU 'to support Obama'. I am not going to be associated with that sort of rhetoric ever. Hate is not acceptable, xenophobia is not acceptable.

So you are right. We need to listen. Starting with listening to each other.

I for one am not one of them.

I have no clue what posts you are referring to. I stayed away from them. There are people on DU that wish to stir the pot. They seem to be doing a good job of it.

There is however something happening here. That is my OP. I do believe that it is the color of change.

No, you are right I don't have to agree with anything. It is what I believe. It is who I am.

The first time I met a gay man. I was about 6 years old. Did I know he was gay? Nope. However my parents were friendly with him and his partner. They were invited to our place on the cape many times. This was a long time ago, I was born in the 50's.

My parents were tolerant, we grew up with out bias. We never saw black or white, gay or straight. We saw people.

There is change happening, you can believe it or not. It's more than just a feeling.

You said...

That's not really true.

Whilst the term 'revolution' implies radical and widespread change, this was not necessarily the case. Even in the 'liberal' sixties, conservative, traditionalist views were widely held, and many modern historians and social scientists are beginning to think that 'revolution' is too much of an overstatement.

Most of the empirical data pertinent to the area only dates back to 1962, somewhat muddying the waters. Despite this, there were changes in sexual attitudes and practices, particularly among the young. Like much of the radicalism from the 1960s, the sexual revolution was often seen to have been centered around the university campus, amongst students.

With its roots in the first perceived sexual revolution in the 1920s, this 'revolution' in 1960s America encompassed many groups who are now synonymous with the era. Feminists, gay rights campaigners, hippies and many other political movements were all important components and facilitators of change.

A final recognition that we are all in this together--is really the only thing that can save us at this point. The 99% can't afford stupid divisions of race, gender, sexual orientation or religion. It is only by keeping us divided that the psychopaths on top can continue their rule.

Collectively we can! And we will run our asses off to make this happen.

I really feel the apathy is dying out. Look at Wisconsin and Texas and North Carolina! People are standing up and being heard. They are being arrested for standing for their rights. The Women of Texas were being humiliated by having their Tampax confiscated at the door to the Texas House. This while fire arms were allowed.

People are standing up! They really are!

34. The senate needs to get ready for a new Democratic senator from Georgia

Michelle Nunn!

If the election of President Obama and the formation of the powerful Obama coalition has taught us anything, it is that everything is possible in America.

It's about time for a democratic woman to represent all of Georgia, and Michelle has the momentum to make it to the top.

Yes we can.

No Democrat has won statewide office in Georgia since 1998. But Michelle Nunn intends to change that by winning the Senate seat her father held for 24 years. Nunn is campaigning as an “independent minded” Democrat, and when I spoke with her this week, she had just completed a 10-city “What Can Washington Learn From Georgia” tour—a trip she undertook with her two young children in tow and her husband at the wheel of a rented red minivan.

http://www.thedailybeast.com/newsweek/2013/08/23/michelle-nunn-s-family-ties.html

Democrat Michelle Nunn is getting a boost in the Georgia Senate race, picking up the endorsement Monday from EMILY's List.

I would say this next election is at least as important as the 2012 election. If I ever seem less than eager to criticize the president or the democrats in congress, or to heap scorn on the many less than perfect things our party has done or left undone, its because I know it could be so much worse. Motivation to move forward must come from votes, and I'd like to see 2014 be a big kick in the pants to congress to move forward.

On the other hand, if the republicans can take advantage of democratic malaise and apathy, they'll consider it a mandate and double-down on the crap they've been pulling for the last 13 years.

There is so much negativity sometimes, and I worry about the cost of it, but I really hope that people see what is most important and vote for the best interests of their communities. If the Democrats can reverse the tradition of poor turnout in the midterms, that would be a great thing.

There are many issues out there. Fracking is wrong. Can we not contaminate this OP too.

We may gain some rights? Under this President we have. We will gain one hell of a lot more if we vote. When we vote things change, slowly, yet they change. Do not dump your load here. That is just wrong.
