The AntiWar Protest Marches Start Once Again: https://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2013/08/27/18742178.php
I could not have imagined this back in 2008.

(30,439 posts)I even recall Obama saying during the primaries that he would expand the war in Afghanistan, which he did.
Obama certainly didn't run as an anti-war candidate.

(37,305 posts)Everybody did. And it ain't just the wars, it was Gitmo, spying, using force without authorization, cracking down on the financial industry... Some want to be revisionists because they can't stand the idea that their Icon stabbed them in the back.

Made sense at the time to focus on the actual threat, rather than the made-up threat.
Yet in the... Obama was forced to end our war in Iraq... thanks to Chelsea Manning.

Pundits across the political spectrum are searching for meaning in the tenth anniversary of the United States invasion of Iraq. The decade-long campaign of bombings and occupation left hundreds of thousands of Iraqis dead and millions wounded, displaced, or scarred. Justified with lies about biological and chemical weapons that never existed, the senseless war cost U.S. tax-payers more than 3 trillion dollars, and far more in blood and shame. Tens of thousands of US soldiers were wounded or killed, and to this day, $490 billion is owed to veterans.
Many credit President Obama with the decision to withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq, and almost none mention the fact that it was cables provided by Bradley Manning and published by WikiLeaks that made Obamas attempt to keep troops there past the 2011 deadline impossible. As CNN reported in October of that year,
Obama had wanted to keep troops beyond President Bushs 2011 deadline, but required the condition that all U.S. soldiers be guaranteed legal immunity for their actions. Upon reading the WikiLeaks-released cables, the Iraqi government refused.
By revealing the hidden realities of the Iraq War, Pfc. Bradley Manning achieved his noble goal of sparking domestic debate, and he helped begin the end of an aggressive, violent, and counterproductive war.

(30,439 posts)Obama calls situation in Afghanistan 'urgent'
KABUL, Afghanistan (CNN) -- Sen. Barack Obama said Sunday that United States needs to focus on Afghanistan in its battle against terrorism.
"I think one of the biggest mistakes we've made strategically after 9/11 was to fail to finish the job here, focus our attention here. We got distracted by Iraq," he said.
Obama said troop levels must increase in Afghanistan.
"For at least a year now, I have called for two additional brigades, perhaps three," he told CBS. "I think it's very important that we unify command more effectively to coordinate our military activities. But military alone is not going to be enough."

(84,711 posts)and there was HUGE OUTCRY HERE...and the Obama Support on my end and others came from Ted Kennedy and Caroline Kennedy and Obama's own Statements about the Iraq War...(painting himself as Anti-IRAQ War RESOLUTION) before he won Senate Seat...and the accolades from fellow DU'ers plus the Kennedys and the "Nation" Magazine and other liberal/progressive..long time Dem Advocate sites convinced us after the other candidates like Hillary...who many of us didn't like because of NAFTA, Deregulation of FDR Safeguards, Commodities, Banking, FCC Deregulation and his "Welfare Reform Act." Hillary was involved and so many of us didn't want his policies to continue...aside from the terrible stuff he did with Monica that dragged us Democrats through the "Blue Dress Stuff."
So...we have him. He's not turning out so well given what I said above...for those of us who cast our vote for him.

(30,439 posts)But being against one war doesn't necesserily make one anti-war.
Obama wanted to increase troops in Afghanistan.
Hardly an anti-war stance.

(84,711 posts)been able to vote for it... And, that's where he caught us out.... He wasn't there at the time...so he got out of it and could say what he wanted as a politician.
There are links for his statement...and the timeframe...but, I don't have time to find...but, those of us here read and know them.. And they exist.
We were so gullible and it was our OWN FAULT...and getting into parsing Obama's back and forth just wastes time going into archives for our links to back up what we say.
You had to be on DU since 2001-02 to understand what went on here. Maybe you've been here...I didn't check out your profile. And, I understand, that there were always Original DU'ers who were not as "Anti-Iraq Invasion" as most of us were at that time...and that THEY are still here along with the REST OF US...who fought back hard on that Invasion. And WE were PROVED CORRECT...as one looks in the Rear View Mirror... While the rest Push on for the PNAC View of how it should all play out through the years.

We're inviting another one.
For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
