He's part of the USSC majority who ruled that the voting rights act was no longer relevant. Plus, he has said in the past that he rejects the concept that he needed any kind of affirmative action in his education and/or career. He's a "bootstrap" conservative. Nobody at all ever helped him. Nobody. And he expressed resentment that other people of his race have gotten places WITH the help that he thinks they should never have had. He shouldn't show his face.
