(10,497 posts)You never know when you will need it, but we all do at some point. This "I got mine, you get yours!" Shit has got to go! France made it a priority and so has the "Best health care in the world" and everyone gets it! They are into PREVENTATIVE CARE so they have a low infant mortality rate and I believe they live much longer than we do.
I suffer from a very painful chronic condition which has no cure, Small Fiber Sensory Neuropathy. It does however have a "treatment" that would make me a symptomatic and take me off of a lifetime of pain meds. It is administered by IV and takes 20 minutes. You start with 1 treatment a day for 4 days, then 1 every other month for life. The catch? Each treatment costs around $15,000.00 per! Pot works better for my disease than just about any other disease, but since I live in Texas I will probably be dead before its legal here. If I had to go without medication I would have to kill myself b/c of the pain. How many out their have to live like that? I shudder to think of all of the unnecessary agony out there!
We would still have the biggest military if we cut the budget in half, which is probably how much waste and fraud the MIC commits. Considering the uninsured go to the ER when their kids get sick or any other medical problem, big or small, enacting single payer would not be much more. We could have universal health care easily from military cuts. Currently, we have the most unjust system of all of the developed world.
If we really got behind alternative energy and installed solar panels on every house, warehouse, building etc., we would not need to involve ourselves in the Middle East. We could develop efficient mass transit and high speed rail. Our Capitolist system and corrupt election process allows big oil to quash these ideas. We need government to help on projects of this scope to make them a reality, but sadly, we pay our tax dollars to Big Oil to subsidize the biggest, richest, corporations in the history of the world! It is the oil companies and the MIC that have decided perpetual war is good business. We have evolved to where we are almost identical to Orwell's "1984!"
We sit passively by while they read and listen to everything we say and do. They will fight any attempt to reform our campaign finance and have publicly funded elections. This is how they control EVERYTHING!!! They own our politicians.
That's all of the rambling rant I have for today, thanks for letting me unload.

(10,724 posts)Maybe I'm off-key, but I don't see anyone really benefiting in the last few, except defence contractors, of course. The work-around there would be to nationalize the defence industry, but that would hardly be an improvement as that might make it less costly to wage war, and more of the relevant actors could lobby from within the government rather than from the outside.
