(18,184 posts)except that the spelling and grammar is pretty good.
The only thing that gives any clue to who wrote it (apart from the good spelling and grammar) is the term "Al Qaeda" rather than "Al-Qaeda": I would guess that lack of a hyphen is more common in American English.

(62,536 posts)I have seen them referred to more as "Al-Nusra" (the Syrian variant of AQ) but for western consumption as "Al-Qaeda."

(62,536 posts)It's easier to believe the guys shooting at you are terrorists than those with actionable reasons to shoot back (in reality, all revolutionaries are terrorists, anyway; it's only when they win that they get to call themselves revolutionaries).
Had the UK won the Revolutionary War it would've been called The Colonialist War of Aggression on the Royals or something and the territory known as the US would be under British control. Hell, the comparison is especially apt since the American Revolutionaries had effectively no governance, no army, no navy, etc. Biggest difference between the two is that the Continental Army had one objective, getting rid of the British, while the "Free Syrian Army" can hardly be considered a unified grouping and is highly fragmented. (The American Revolutionaries had the Atlantic dividing them from the British for the most part; Canada notwithstanding.)

(62,536 posts)I wouldn't see a Marine with a purple heart sullying the uniform like that, either. It could be real, and at least one of those photos was posted to DU with much fanfare, but I don't really know.

BTW Infowars is hosting those photos, which is a bit of a giveaway.

(62,536 posts)The CO would have his ass for that.
(He could be on leave or maybe grew it out over the weekend, but I find that silly, who takes their uniform on leave with them? And who allows their hair to grow that long over the weekend? There's no guarantee that you won't get called in over weekend leave, and that would get you in so much trouble.)

(62,536 posts)Basically they exploited the HTTP server and put up their own page, it wasn't down for long. The administrators of the site will have to look at their security and be sure that there are no exploits in the wild.
