So when Corporate Fast Food Chains pay their workers at below poverty scale part time wages - who picks up the rest of the bill.

Since the worker's wages can't sustain an apartment, food to eat, medical cost, or basic transportation then some one, or a group of some ones, and most certainly State and Federal Government, by one means or another is subsidizing that Fast Food Corporation by providing housing, medical cost, and basic needs to the workers.

1. The Wallmart model

Wal-Mart's poverty wages force employees to rely on $2.66 billion in government help every year, or about $420,000 per store. In state after state, Wal-Mart employees are the top recipients of Medicaid. As many as 80 percent of workers in Wal-Mart stores use food stamps.

the powers that be will not act on this, and serve their 1% overlords instead.

They only way for change here might be a massive boycott of businesses that pay poverty wages.

5. yes! That is what is happening, wake-up America

We, the taxpayer are subsidizing Walmart, McDonald's and all the cheap pay corporations because the pay is so low that the employees qualify for food stamps, rental assistance, medical care etc. Think about that the next time you get a 99 cent meal, it is costing you a hell of lot more that what you are paying at the window. And - the owners of these large corporations are pocketing the profits that could be used to pay their employees a decent wage.

Just adjusting the minimum wage for inflation, would make the minimum hourly rate over $10.50 an hour.

I know I am becoming a stuck record on this subject, but it is so outrageous and I don't think enough people understand all the underlying things that go on to allow the corporations to sell things so cheap.

6. I agree of course, but the reason

that people don't understand is because the corporate media won't cover this. I may have heard Ed mention it (although Walmart is a sponsor of MSNBC) but I have never heard about it anywhere else.
