...why not "bomb" the Syrians with gas masks and hazmat suits? It would be cheaper than the bombs of death. Just a question for those supporting bombing the people of Syria.

(62,277 posts)The administration denied that for obvious reasons. The masks wouldn't wind up in the hands of civilians in the long run and the back and forth would just be total war on civilians.

(19,053 posts)Do you really believe the bombs will kill "bad guys"?

(62,277 posts)I'm just saying it's untenable. You also have to consider that the masks are only useful if you have early warning devices installed too. And those can be easily damaged or attacked. So you'd want to equip the entire civilian population with them.
That's not possible.

(11,619 posts)We would have to fight a air war of several weeks to destroy the Syrian Air Force and degrade their anti-aircraft capability so that we could safely fly into Syrian Territory. So, it makes no sense to bomb them to dust just so we can peaceably drop gas mask and hazmat suits.

(25,285 posts)military installations to cut off their ability to continue their slaughtering of the Syrian people. I didn't think it was a good strategy to bomb the chemical weapons installations as the consequences of bombing in fact may lead to releasing the chemical weapons and actually backfire.
Now I'm thinking if we bomb Syrian Airports and decimate their Air Force and military installations - the only thing left that they would have to use would be the chemical weapons.
So bottom line there really isn't a good strategy for this strike.
Who the hell sold Assad the chemical weapons in the first place?
