Dallas-area home prices rose by a record 8 percent in the latest Standard & Poors/Case-Shiller Home Price Index.
The increase in June from the previous year was higher than the 7.6 percent rise in May and was the largest ever recorded for Dallas in the closely-watched economic report.
Dallas-area prices are now almost 3 percent higher than they were at the peak of the market in June 2007. And local prices in the Case-Shiller index have gained more than 15 percent in value from where they were at the worst of the recession in early 2009.
Nationwide prices were up 10.1 percent in the index, with some markets seeing even higher gains, including Las Vegas, up 24.9 percent, and San Francisco, up 24.5 percent.

How about the deficit shrinking from 10.2 of the GDP to 4.2?

(128,441 posts)and then described what should be waited for. We are not there yet but can at least see a finish line. If anything, it's ridiculous to get mad at the means to a hopefully benign end (without the need to fire a shot) because those means don't necessarily fit a known "strategy".

How in the name of tiny green apples do you in ANY way see this as a victory? He was going to bomb Syria until his own congress and the rest of the dam world let him know how BAD an idea it was. Then it was an off-hand remark by a Secretary of State whom I thought I knew, that got picked up on by the Russians' of all people, and suddenly everyone was able to save face. Obama LEAST of all, but still a fig leaf is better than no leaf.
Sweet smell of victory my ass. It smells alright, but it ain't sweet, and an ass whuppin is still an ass whuppin no matter what you try and call it otherwise, 'cause Putin just took our president to school.

And let's say Assad does hand over the chemicals (yeah, I am so holding my breath), won't he just go back to business-as-usual with conventionals? What then? The Prez is going to have a hard time backing off to his previous level of laissez faire policy after all this ballyhoo.
Prez better watch Putin like a hawk...Putin was KGB when our Prez was still in middle school. That old snake has forgotten more devious political shenanigans than a lot of pols ever knew...

Why would we wait for something that is certainly a certainty?
While one can certainly praise a good outcome, most of us will leave the approval of how it was gained to those who share the rightwingnut love of the "the ends justify the means" rationale. The line between them and many so-called "liberals" on many fronts has gotten as fuzzy as rightwingnut math...

Obama, Putin, and Assad all know how the game is played. They each claim their little victory. Assad lays low for a couple of months, then he can get the labs working again. Obama will leave him alone because the main objective was to divert attention from the gathering uprising about the NSA.

(16,327 posts)There are a thousand ways to Sunday this could still go wrong. Israel and Saudi Arabia are going to be seriously unhappy campers if there are no strikes. Putin/Assad could play us like fiddles. Assad could continue to bomb the fuck out of his people with conventional weapons. A rebel group might decide to "prod" us into a strike with a convenient new chem attack.
We are far from out of the woods on this one.
