This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by EarlG (a host of the General Discussion forum).
On the 12th anniversary of 9/11, a new national survey by the polling firm YouGov reveals that one in two Americans have doubts about the governments account of 9/11, and after viewing video footage of World Trade Center Building 7s collapse, 46% suspect that it was caused by a controlled demolition. Building 7, a 47-story skyscraper, collapsed into its own footprint late in the afternoon on 9/11.
The poll was sponsored by ReThink911, a global public awareness campaign launched on September 1. The campaign includes a 54-foot billboard in Times Square and a variety of transit and outdoor advertising in 11 other cities, all posing the question, Did you know a third tower fell on 9/11?
Among the polls findings:
38% of Americans have some doubts about the official account of 9/11, 10% do not believe it at all, and 12% are unsure about it;
46%, nearly one in two, are not aware that a third tower collapsed on 9/11. Of those who are aware of Building 7s collapse, only 19% know the buildings name;
After seeing video footage of Building 7's collapse:
46% are sure or suspect it was caused by controlled demolition, compared to 28% who say fires caused it, and 27% who don't know"

What I find puzzling, dear DU, is that this place, which has many critical and independent thinkers, seems to have a majority view that alternative theories to the government explanation are somehow to be labeled conspiracy theory, and to be ridiculed and relegated to a dungeon. What I find particularly disturbing, is how the conspiracy theorist label has been very succesful in limiting debate. That is a mental prison of our own making, and I reject it. The end game memo, the LIBOR scandal, the Monsanto-government collusion, and on and on - the dots NEED to be connected. How can one in two americans be open to alternative theories, but DU is not? That doesn't make sense to me.
As a metallurgical engineer, I can only say, did you know a third building fell? The explanation for it (due to office furniture fire) makes zero sense, I'm sorry. Buildings do not fall through the path of greatest resistance at free-fall speed. Open your eyes. And watch this short clip or the one hour free docu
I really can't find fault with it. Note that it was also in the mainstream media over here two years ago, and now even my family is convinced the official story is baloney.
It's time we the people conspire against the 0.01%.

(8,159 posts)It truly is an eye opener. The people being interviewed are experts in their field.
People need to watch the whole thing before poo pooing it.

(8,219 posts)It is deliberately not copy-protected. The producers encourage people to make copies and distribute them.
I've been doing so.
Three buildings fall symmetrically into their own footprint. The official story cannot be true. It was controlled demolition, which raises the issue that such an occurrence requires months of preparation of the building site.
Do the math.

(28,498 posts)From Bush sitting on his butt and doing nothing when told by Card the US was under attack to Bush telling two different stories about how he first learned of the first attack (he saw it on TV; he was notified of it), from WTC7 falling due to "fire" to no airplane wreckage at the Pentagon.
Not to mention 15 of the 19 attackers, who all eluded surveillance, were from a country friendly to the Bush Family and a people who believe Americans are their "white slaves" (essentially cabana boys with high-tech weaponry).
Yeah, the "official story" is a conspiracy theory. And horse shit.

(3,111 posts)So many things about the official explanation simply do not smell right.
Then, the fact that no reasonable inquiry was ever done.
Americans were understandably traumatized by the horrific events and then re-traumatized with them via TV over an extended period of time.
We have one nation under PTSD, which explains a lot of the irrational behavior since then.
Conspiracy theories? To be honest, we need one vast de-programming to take place before we can even claim to think straight again. Time, thank goodness, has healed these wounds to some extent. But so much "wrong thinking" still exists in all things political as a result of the very human and understandable but ongoing traumatic reaction of all the American public.

(1,893 posts)But the best way to prevent another 9/11 is to promote widespread awareness of the sheer absurdity of the 9/11 official story. Ultimately, if the public isn't going to swallow your story, there's no point in orchestrating another similar event.
Excellent video - thanks for posting.

(4,192 posts)Yes, I'm open to a more plausible explanation. Given that the heap of rubble left after the towers fell was cleaned up so quickly - like a bunch of criminals wiping up the crime scene before the investigators could do their jobs - it will be very difficult to get all the facts. But I refuse to swallow the swill that has been offered up as the "official" story.

When your Gov lies and sells propaganda and even monitors your phones etc, then the official gov version isn't going to be believed ever by all people; especially the things that stand out as really "hinky" in our history. 9/11 is one of them. I wish they would stop turning it into a holiday. In another few years, it may just become another "lets get drunk" long weekend like Labor Day or Memorial Day has become.

I hope this negotiation of peaceful resolution actually works! I don't care how the walk out looked. Most people don't pay all that much attn to the world of politics and the 24 hr cable news shit. I know between work, school, and football season for my son, the only reason I know a bit about anyone complaining about the roll out is because of DU... Other than that, no one is talking about this in my "school - mom" world because we are too damned busy getting thru the day!

(60,161 posts)1. The poll is interesting, in showing more people now than ever are distrustfal of gov. version.
I think it reflects, in part, the fact the gov. has become so much more untrustworthy over the last 12 years.
2. Building 7 was the smoking gun.
Overkill.
Most people seeing only the videos of that building going down recognize a controlled demolition.

(50,983 posts)The way Building Seven fell makes no sense. No random fires could cause the building to fall straight down into its footprint. Besides, the fires inside Building Seven never appeared to be the sort of raging inferno required to bring the building down at all.
And if the fires were actually sufficient to cause the severe structural weakness that would cause the building to collapse, how is it that the compromised steel was so uniformly distributed as to causer the sort of collapse we witnessed.
Why Syzygy
(18,928 posts)you have never read the CT dungeon @ DU. Don't you know? A piece of debris from the two towers (the only debris not turned to dust, apparently) hit Bldg 7! I don't remember if that's what started the fire, or just another miracle happened that day to start it, and it is lost to my memory.
That's what you'll learn if you go to the CT group.
Twelve years of abuse, mockery and slander. And now this.

Why has the nation arbitrarily decided to selectively enforce the law? The banks got by with overt acts of money laundering, fraud and every sort of malfeasance that one can imagine. But just don't get caught with a bag of pot. WTF?

(14,896 posts)We are now a country that uses a two tier justice system.
We have a justice system for the rich, famous, powerful and well connected.
We have a justice system for the remaining 99%.
The first group is above the law.
The second group is held to the letter of the law.
The scales of justice are totally out of kilter.
The corruption and greed of the 1% are imploding this country.

(50,983 posts)But this lawlessness seems to have been ramped up coinciding with 911 event. Not to create a new conspiracy theory.

(14,896 posts)Agree.
The lawlessness definitely kicked up another notch, or two after 9/11.
It has been here since the beginning.
It is more blatant and in your face today.
They don't seem to care.
They don't try to hide it.

(5,379 posts)Given the tremendous impact 9/11 has had on the worldwide psyche, and the fact that the Iraq "sale" was only possible in the ensuing state of paralysis, it is the logical starting point for a reckoning. It could start with the redacted pages of the 9/11 report, dealing with the financing IIRC.

(25,699 posts)Everyone who has an alternative theory on 9/11 seems to have their own, and from what I've seen, they love to argue with everyone else's ideas on the subject... This comes from my experience on a conspiracy theory forum which, obviously, had no such thing as a "conspiracy theory dungeon"
Basically it's just page after page after page after page of people flailing at each other about their pet theories, accusing each other of being government shills, and... well, it's utter chaos over there.
Imagine a pit bull thread on DU. Now make EVERY thread a pit bull thread. Every day. Now make it a pit bull thread full of Alex Jones videos, clips from "Zeitgeist," and everyone admonishing everyone else to "wake up!" - that's what DU would be like without the creative speculation "dungeon"

(38,054 posts)My father in law hauled his family over from Italy to work as a structural engineer (math genius he is) to work on the Towers. He is now 79 and back home in Acri. Santo will tell you - back then an Italian Engineer/Architect designed for bombs. Look up terrorism and mafia (separate but same levels of violence) in Italy post WW II through the 1980's. They accepted bombings as just an everyday thing there for time he was at University and were trained to build with that in mind.
I tried to tell him about Loose Change - I tried. He has seen it and has read many of the theories from leftist journalists in Western Europe and laughed at me. He is anti capitalist, anti plutocracy, and in his old age belongs to one of the far left Socialist Parties.
They designed for bombs from within or placed outside of the towerS(all of them). They did not design it for Cosa Nostra or Red Hand (I think that was the communist organization in Italy making the worst trouble) to slam a plane in it.
BelgianMadCow
(5,379 posts)What's your father in law's opinion of a steel-frame building collapsing in its footprint at near freefall speed due to office fires?
It's the opinions of the high rise architects and the historical non-evidence of such collapses that I find the most compelling in the docu I linked.
I don't remember whether Loose Change focuses on WTC7 much.
That being said, I respect your view.

(5,610 posts)I have been subjected to a lot of ridicule on DU and most places where the subject has arisen.
Even when I provide links of renowned experts explaining the impossibility of the official version, I have been most often called an "Alex Jones" ignorant sheep"...
Within days, the experts were trying to educate Americans about the high implausibility, actually the impossibility, of the governments explanation.
9-11 has been thoroughly investigated by the world's experts in their fields...Physicists, Demolition experts, metallurgical engineers, etc... They concluded that the official version was impossible.
This was our "burning of the Reich-stag" that made "The Patriot Act" and the loss of our rights, possible.
There are too many unanswered questions about the Boston bombing also.
IMO, these and more government attacks on our civilian population have been committed to scare and control us.
That is what "our" government has become. An Enemy of the People.
Until we stop accepting the official versions of these heinous events (meant to get around that "God damned piece of paper"...our Constitution) and start accepting the real experts who unofficially examine these events, we are emboldening the coup which has taken over America. This coup is led by a handful of the wealthiest Americans. So far they have been untouchable. They control the narrative and the citizens through fear.
Wake-up and smell the shackles. They do not care how many peons they kill. They will do Anything to control the strongest nation on earth.
Yes, it is a conspiracy. What does it take for Americans to go from theory to fact?
