A disturbing thought.

In the 1850s a lot of states in the Old Confederacy passed were was known as nullification laws.

Now these lovely laws were meant to make sure that FEDERAL laws regarding slavery were not followed in the south. Essentially you were a Federal Official, you had no authority. Now since Sandy Hook we are seeing something really scary. Rachel went through some of them today.

Louisiana essentially made gun ownership a fundamental right. So even criminals will be able to have them. Michigan has allowed blind people to obtain concealed carry permits. And Missouri attempted, one vote short, to pass an honest to goodness nullification law. I do not like this pattern. And yes, I believe that some folks are willing to go to war to keep their right to keep and bear arms, (that goes back to slavery and slave suppression) intact. And it is as they understand it.

So yes, this is dark, but the balkanization has reached the point that perhaps some are willing to literally go to war. If that is the case, I suspect the Second will either go the way of Slavery, or the country will break apart. That is what civil wars do.

And no, not a nice thought. It is one of many reasons we are seeing the splintering of the country.

2. Oh yes, and I gave my city council member the snifles I am sure

I had to cover city council yesterday, and did not realize how sick I was. So I staid home today.

I should have covered it from home, remotely. City Council has that ability.

As for our city council we have 51 seats and I live in one of the only swing districts in the city. Looks like de Blasio is our next mayor.

though yesterday I had doubts on only one, voting wise. The rest voted as I expected. I have been doing this long enough to be able to tell. Campaign promises... my ass. If Pardee tells them to jump, they just ask how high. (Developer)

7. Sneeze on the Republicans, Nadine.

Always happy to see your posts. Glad you're well. And I hope you did sneeze on a few Republicans. Not too difficult in San Diego. One cannot swing a cat without hitting one. But it is such a beautiful place. Best weather on the planet.

8. Ironically, that is who was the closest.

That said, San Diego City is NOT as hard red as it used to be.

We have a 5:4 majority in the City Council for Dems. There are a couple districts, like District 8, that Republicans could not elect a dog catcher, if the post existed.

And the city, it is population trends, is becoming even bluer. A generation and even El Cajon, Santee and La Mesa, probably Lemon Grove, will be quite blue. Now Alpine, Boulevard, Lakeside and Julian, no, that will not change. If anything people will leave in greater numbers, especially the far east county, due to water issues and climate change.

Piece of trivia for San Diego, the Conflict for the County Seat was between San Diego City, full of northern Yankees that came after the Civil War, and Julian. full of southern rebels that came after the war; some of that has not gone away. There is a reason we never tell people East of the 15 that we are Jewish.

10. can you give an example of when nullification has been successful?
Tue Sep 17, 2013, 10:55 PM

It has been tried many times since 1776 and it is not about slavery. From what I know it is about states trying to make their own laws contrary to federal laws. Like medical marijuana. What is the new law that La passed that allows criminals to have guns? (As if criminals care about laws)

I don't understand your argument linking the right to keep and bear arms to slavery. It makes no sense.

If there is a civil war about gun ownership, it would have to be anti-gun group leaving the union. It wouldn't be much of a war since they don't have guns.

11. It was not, it was part of the problem leading to the civil war

and with the same exact goals. I never said, or wrote, that it was successful, But we have now a nullification movement, and we have a secession movement. Both should scare right thinking people, because they could be the preview for a very nasty series of coming attractions.
