She's on with Jon Stewart, and overwhelmingly I am thinking I'm looking at Hillary. She has the features of her Mom's face, and there's a bit of Bill as well. But the way she uses her eyes is an exact replica of her Mom.
That eye sparkling thing they do is not something I'm fond of watching, so I was not happy she has adopted that for herself.
Oh, well. It's such a treat to see a grown Democratically raised child of substance and breeding, one who was also fortunate to have had the best possible education.
She is of course smart, articulate, brilliant. That first smart does not include her appearance.
The dress is one where I wish the money spent on it had gone elsewhere to feed some poor children, it was way too much of a not so good thing. Had she fed those children there would have been plenty money left to put her into a less ridiculous looking simple dress.
I had fun seeing her and listening to her. After all, I've "known" her since she was about 12.

So damn handy!
I was very impressed with her as well, and in typical Clintonian style she didn't rule out public service in the future.

She sounds like an articulate young person, but for someone raised in the public eye she seems to have skipped the lesson on first impressions.

(489 posts)Thought she was very rehearsed and completely unoriginal. I know they are going to try to run her for office but I'm not so sure she'll have that on lock. The generation she needs for votes (my generation) most of us aren't so impressed I know New York has better.

(89,239 posts)why is this like always used when people don't like when someone uses their own money to spend on something personal ?
the answer I think lies in that banal and hackneyed phrases just come to mind, so we use them.
It's not that she spent her own money on something personal that I was tongue in cheek critical of. Naturally that is not a concern of mine. I was being catty about her having spent what looked like a possibly huge sum on a dress that was unbecoming and over the top. Some of that money could have well been spent in other ways. IMO. And it's none of my business, I was just running my mouth.
What I like about Oprah, a woman of substance and a billionaire, is that she spends tremendous amounts of money on the education (feeding in another way) of girls in South Africa in the school she founded and funds.
I also like that she looked at a purse for herself in a swank store in Switzerland that had a price tag of 38 000 somethings. Euros maybe.
I like that she understands a healthy balance, on a scale I cannot grasp but don't have to.
These aren't and weren't meant as value judgments. Just flowing with what's in front of me, and having opinions. I try to stay lightened up, otherwise it's all so damn hard, isn't it.

(22,380 posts)And I agree with you on many levels, especially the one that may say that the subject is unworthy and irrelevant.
Yet
when a person of importance comes across your radar and all you see is a visual of clothing weird and loud enough to drown out that there is a person in there you want to look at, then something has gone awry.
That's what happened here.
And it does have a voice.

(40,416 posts)Okay! I confess that a mullet hair cut turns me off. And tattoos all over ones face does the same. Some cultural affectations deserve to be maligned.
But mostly I am tolerant of people's individual taste. This is in spite of the fact that I basically hate Rap, or anything like it. I love opera, and impressionist paintings. I even like Alban Berg opera, but not every day.
I cannot remember who said it, but I've never heard it said better.
Your taste is in your mouth.
The lesson is that nobody's taste is the same as any other's. There's a lot of art which I do not especially like, which I recognize as worthy of the label great. There's a lot of popular culture which is just total rubbish by any measure.
But then again, my taste is within my mouth.

(22,380 posts)in a way that leave the pupils flowing low, the whites of the eyes surround the top of the pupil, and the intent of the exercise is to indicate real focusing in on who she is talking to? And it gives a sparkle to the target she is talking to, albeit short lived, that makes them feel very singled out in a special way.
Hillary uses it when she is in a crowd chosing important folks and additionally pointing a finger at them to elevate they have been recognized.
That's what I noticed Chelsea also does just when she was talking to Jon Stewart, the interviewer.
That's all.
I'm being shallow
Not much that is visual escapes me. And I commented on it.

(10,362 posts)She's the ultimate carpetbagger. Grew up in Illinois, lived in Arkansas and DC, then moves to NY because Moynihan retired sensing a senate seat she could win.
The Clintons should ride off into the sunset and let someone self-made run. The Clintons are political mercenaries. Guaranteed if a winnable senate seat appears in Connecticut or Massachusetts, Chelsea will follow the script.

(30,247 posts)Chelsea can wear whatever she chooses to wear. I have no clue what she wore as I didn't watch the show, but I'm sure that what she wore is irrelevant to what she had to say. Also, what's with the "sparkly eye" comment? What is that supposed to mean?

(47,425 posts)I just looked at an old TIME magazine with a story about political dynasties: Bush, Clinton, Gore, Paul, Romney, Cuomo and now Cheney. And one observation was that it is easy for a child of a politician to enter politics since they are used to visit state fairs, march in parades, shake hands of constituents, etc.
So I was reminded of this when Chelsea said how, at the age of six, she helped her dad prepare for a debate by playing his opponent.
