Rabble, rabble, rabble! I have finally reached the final mortgage payment -

which I expected to be auto-deducted from my account Monday. Nothing has been taken out, so after two phone calls I finally find out that since it's the last payment, I have to send the check. Since I'm a week late, it's an extra 72 cents. Talk about scraping the barrel to make that last penny!

foreclose for missed payments.

Congratulations, I dream of that day but it's still quite a way down the road.

I think the banks have made as much on this house as the people who sold it to us!

The least they could have done was sent you a notice telling you that.

I have a friend who doesn't even have any checks. She does everything by credit card, debit card, smart phone payment, and other electronic means. I learned this when recently she owed me about 40 dollars and was going to do a transfer from her smart phone to mine, except I don't have a smart phone. So I said, "Just write me a check," and she told me she doesn't have any of those critters.

When she got a chance to stop by an ATM she got me the cash -- she's a good friend so there was no way she was going to stiff me. But I was totally flabbergasted at the no checks thing. And I bet she's not the only one.

The proceeds from my dad's house in Florida did it for me, along with buying me a more reliable car and a corneal transplant so I could see well enough to drive it.

You should have been notified in writing about that last payment.

I hate banks. I just wish there was a better place to stash my money. I live in a bad neighborhood so cash is out of the question.
