Anyone else ready to say fuck it, let it shut down?

I'm sick of the country being held hostage by the Teabaggers whenever we have to address the budget. Every. Damn. Time.

I'm to the point I just want to say fuck it, let it shut down. I know this would hurt millions of Americans who are only trying to get by day-to-day. I'm in that very group, and will suffer as well. I know this could possibly throw our nation back into a recession, or at the very least stagnate the slow recovery further. If I'm lucky, I won't be laid off if that happens, but I will see any raises shot to hell and my health insurance benefits wittled down further.

But I don't see any other options. The "moderate" Republicans have now thrown their hats in with the out-and-out nutbags, and are literally holding this nation hostage. The GOP has lost it's fucking mind and what little conscience it once had.

Maybe it is time to let the millions of GOP supporters see just how fucked their lives would be without government assistance? They don't listen to reason and logic; maybe flat-out pain would get through their thick skulls.

Maybe, once their Social Security checks get delayed and their Medicare-paid Viagra prescriptions don't get filled, they'll pull their heads out of their asses? Or am I being too optimistic?

I'm saying Obama should hold firm on his refusal to negotiate with the teabaggers, and if that impass causes the nation to default on the debt and start shutting down parts of the government, it's on their heads.

if we have a Republican misrepresenting us.

If they do shut it down, that will be the final nail in the teabagger coffin. The combined ill gotten money of the Blues, the Kochs, the Scaifes, the Waltons, and every other fascist out there will not be enough to deodorize them if they pull this stunt.

Maybe they need to consult Gingrich on what happened to him when he tried it.

My state (MN) is finally getting back on track as well. I don't want to see that derailed.

I don't see options, and I am opposed to negotiating, but that is not the same as saying "fuck it!"

If we have no options, and neither side will negotiate, what do we do then? To be clear, I don't want Obama to negotiate with those assholes either. But those assholes have control of the House, and a sizeable contingent in the Senate.

What the fuck do we do if we can't get them to change their minds?

I would not be opposed to negotiation if it was a real negotiation. Democrats and Republicans both compromise and reach the middle as it used to be done. Our system as designed requires compromise.
Republicans do not compromise. Democrats do, but it turns into a surrender in order to govern.
Our system is entirely broken.
We are very near a failed state. I suspect that some deal will be reached, this time. There are Republicans, a lot of them, who do not want this but the gutless turds are scared shitless that they will be primaried. After the damage is done, some kind of deal will be reached.

But it may be that Tea Party Fucks have decided to bring everything down, to destroy it all. We will not know for a few weeks.

hurt by a shutdown than people who lean toward Democrats. Republicans have stripped food programs for the poor and elderly. Republicans have denied funds for rebuilding crumbling infrastructure. There is little to nothing more that they can take from Democratic leaning areas. I want the average republican voter to suffer, I want the average republican voter to be brought to recognize that we live in a commonwealth, one day I don't need and can help others that need, but on another day I may need. I am not a republican, that is why, if republicans shut down the government, I want them and their voters fucked royally.

Is that he doesn't want to intentionally fuck over people just to prove a point, or to score some points.

Republican's want to shut the government down to prove a point and to score some points with their supporters.

The OP wants the government to shutdown to prove a point, and so Democrats can score some points.

For lack of a better quote - Same shit, different asshole.

the Republicans shoot themselves in the foot by shutting the government down. It was a disaster for them the last time they tried. My personal opinion is it would be an even bigger disaster for them now.

But it's important to remember that a lot of people depend on the government, and for some it's a matter of life and death. So for their sake, I hope it doesn't happen.

Yes, a lot of us have suffered, and many have suffered far worse than me and mine.

We must remain steadfast in our resolve to oppose the one percent at the polls every other November, and in some states at the Novembers in between. Letting the nation lapse into third world status won't solve anything.

In January, some of the biggest components of ACA go into effect. They are going completely fucking batshit crazy because they can sense the end is near for them.

but I don't want Democrats to cave in on ACA (not that I think that they will, though). The Republicans have started a game of "chicken" (again) with this nation's economy and no amount of spin will save them from the fallout if they decide not to blink at the end of the road. What happens now is ultimately up to them.

I'm concerned letting the Republicans have their way (government shutdown and resulting austerity) could do damage that we can't repair.

What happens if unemployment spikes to 20% and there are million person riots in every major city? Recent events in other countries would suggest that this is a very realistic possibility in the event of a default/sustained shutdown.

The current focus is on the need for a continuing resolution to maintain the government's authority to spend money.

Next month, the government bumps up against the current debt ceiling. Minting a high-value coin has been suggested as a way around that problem, but it wouldn't affect the lack of a continuing resolution.

A government shutdown would undoubtedly hurt a lot of people, but caving into the RW's terrorism would be worse IMO. Caving would hurt a lot MORE people for a lot longer time AND would make it impossible to govern in the future.

There's no good answers here. Personally, I think a couple million people occupying D.C. 24/7 might make the point better than any letters, emails, and strongly worded LTTE would ever do. Of course that option also has it's disadvantages and dangers.

Like I said, no good options. That's what happens when you begin to careen into a pre-revolutionary phase.
