2. I remember way back in 1972 I had gotten involved with an Evangelical Bible study group and church -

although my politics was still relatively left-wing. Most of my fellow believers were supporting Nixon. However, I was supporting McGovern. I remember being directly told that what was wrong with McGovern from a Christian perspective is that McGovern wanted to end wars and poverty and work to build a just world - like that was something bad.
