Since my last post was deleted this morning, I'm going to repost it...

DUers, just so you know, I was a member back in 2007-2008 when I was 14 and a freshman in high school. I came here to discuss politics and become more active in the Democratic Party. However, I over did it with promoting a personal grassroots fundraising page for Barack Obama and I was banned.

Last month, I came back because I wanted to once again be a DUer. I am now 18 and I don't plan to spam out the boards like I did back in 2008. Does a person here ever get a second chance to prove him or her self?

Some has asked me if I have actually filed paperwork to run for mayor. The answer is yes. I have also received 238 nomination signatures and will be placed on the ballot in the upcoming mayoral election. This can be confirmed by The Sheboygan Press and Today's TMJ4 News (NBC Milwaukee). The New York Daily News even wrote an article about my campaign:

I am only sharing this to get your thoughts and start a discussion. Pretty disappointed to see some here do not want me here joining the discussion. I want to make a difference. You can do a search on DU2 of his posts, and his locking messages, and they all tend to relate to his multiple incarnations under various forms of the names Asher or Heimerman and his spamming of the board, reposting locked/deleted messages, and signing up under multiple usernames.

Hell, he ADMITS on DU2 to signing up with multiple usernames with posts akin to "hi guys...since my other 18 accounts I created today were banned, I thought I'd sign up again and ask you guys to visit my website..."

and on edit--I wasn't even a mod when the majority of his accounts were tombstoned/inactivated and his threads locked and his posts deleted. IT WAS PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE THAT HE WAS A SPAMMER. IT WAS PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE THAT HE REPEATEDLY SIGNED UP WITH MULTIPLE ACCOUNTS DESPITE PREVIOUS ONES BEING BANNED. he admitted it. All of his handles were variations of Asher and/or Heimerman.

flooding a board with repeated posts or multiple similar posts. I have not read your other posts, so I don't know whether you have been spamming, but if this is a repost of a post that was hidden for violating TOS, then, yes, it absolutely would be spamming, even if you are not selling something.

Repetitious self-promoting posts would also be considered spamming. For example, I have a number of websites. If I constantly posted threads about my sites or replies in other threads in which instead of responding to the topic under discussion, I repeatedly told others to visit my websites, that would be spamming.

Another way of spamming would be to make the same comment repeatedly through a thread, or repeatedly from one thread to another, especially if the comment happened to be unrelated to the topics under discussion in the threads. For example, say you went from one thread to another and posted something irrelevant, like "Pug dogs are the greatest!" or something off the wall, like "Silly people smoke notebook paper!"--regardless of the topic under discussion. Or even if you just made such a post repeatedly in the same thread, that would still be spamming.

Basically, spamming is a form of littering. It clutters the landscape with "stuff" that gets in the way when other people are trying to enjoy the scenery--or the discussion--on a discussion board. Writing one thread about yourself to introduce yourself is fine, if there is something about you that would be of interest to others on the board. Doing it more than once would be spamming.

If you have been laboring under the misconception that you can do any of those things as long as you are not trying to sell something, then that is why you have been getting into trouble here.

I was a little disturbed by some of the comments here, until I saw that. He's very much behaving as an 18 year old and obviously not ready to be given such an important job as mayor.

On the other hand, I hope that he continues with his interest in politics. I'm sure he'll mature, as we all do, and look back on this as a horrible mistake in his potential political career. Whether he does or not, this will follow him forever.

I wasn't around when he was apparently spamming DU at 14, so I won't judge him on that. There's a fairly large consensus here that he was annoying. At 14, so was I, but I didn't have the internet to advertise that fact.

My advice to the young Asher, take the Twitter account down and make a public apology. Admit that you were acting on inexperience and made a very, very poor attempt at humor. You'll at least have that as a footnote if you choose to persue this as a career.
