If they shut down the government, they lose the majority in the House in the next election.
If they don't, the teabaggers will primary them and they may lose their power in the primary since most teabaggers don't get elected.
And the only people that lose: Those not in the upper 1%.

(1,508 posts)They've gerrymandered themselves into an indefinite hold on the House. Couple that with all the election rigging they're doing and the fact the half of the country is right on board with these idiots and you have them holding the House and possibly getting the Senate.
This country is that fucked up.

(1,508 posts)If the media and their corporate sponsors suffer then perhaps there will be a price. But it won't hurt them, they'll go on eating filet mignon while giving the idiots that blame the President the microphone.
It'll break even. And breaking even leaves us with a Republican House.

(7,834 posts)Obstruct government and defund the ACA. Why wouldn't they get reelected? This is what they were sent there to do.
Elections, especially midterms, come down to turnout. Midterms typically have much lower turnout than presidential years, that has favored the Republicans lately because their voters have been more motivated even though they are outnumbered these days. The gerrymandering helps as well, but turnout is the major factor.
We might could narrow the gap a bit in the House but I doubt we get it back this go round, better chance in 2016.
