Amidst the mind-numbing array of hollow political promises to lower U.S. gas prices, there’s one really important point everyone should know: the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline, which supporters say will “bring down prices at the pump,” wouldn’t be built until 2014.

And that’s if everything went forward today without a hitch.

Well, knock me over with a feather! From listening to the Republicans and the teevee, I was under the distinct impression that the whole thing could be pieced together over the weekend, a small army of welders dispatched, and oil would flow through the pipeline by St. Patrick's Day, guaranteeing $2.50/gallon gas forever and forever, as well as creating about 12 kajillion jobs.
