That will take some time but the pressure will build for the moderate Republicans.

There are Republicans that are in competitive districts or who have not consumed the suicide juice that will only let the games go on so long. At some point they will be looking not only at their political futures when the electorate gets tired of this crap but also whether this really advances their core philosophy that government should be smaller.

This will happen over time. They are already starting to peel off. Boehner boy will eventually realize that he has no choice unless the tea baggers have a video of him doing unspeakables with another man or a goat.

in a poll here on DU I voted for at least a month.

that's the time it will take for the mouthbreather to figure out how this is actually hurting them.

then there will be a "face saving" measure that will be nothing but bullshit and bright lights.

however, the repukes will be allowed to run with the ball of propaganda and say they wore down Obama.

"Obama needs to compromise and agree to not raise the debt ceiling by Cuts 2 NSA to pay for Obamacare"

What does that even mean? The debt ceiling has nothing to do with paying for the ACA. NOTHING.

You want a plan "B"? Here it is. We spend the next year hammering the Republicans. We make ads for every stupid thing they have done and we play them over and over. We show military people suffering because of the shutdown. We beat them into submission until they are sitting in the corner babbling. Then we take the house in 14 and have 2 years of unobstructed leadership.

Will the House just cease to exist as a representative body in January 2015 if no agreement is reached? Expect at some point the "moderate" Republicans will help end this debacle. Do not expect the Tea Party Republicans to change.

25. Well, some have considered the 14th Amendment.
Tue Oct 1, 2013, 05:24 PM
Oct 2013

In regards to that, it would be invoking section 4 which states:

Section 4. The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned. But neither the United States nor any State shall assume or pay any debt or obligation incurred in aid of insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or any claim for the loss or emancipation of any slave; but all such debts, obligations and claims shall be held illegal and void.

So there are ways to go beyond Congress. It isn't used, and I don't feel comfortable about it, but at least there are options.

So, there will always be a Plan B. I don't like the idea of expanding the powers of the Presidency even more but... Republicans are being ridiculous.

Tue Oct 1, 2013, 06:15 PM

These religious fanatics want America to be destroyed so they get all the money and army to invade the world to force their form of christianity down the worlds throat. This is a very dangerous movement that very few people know about.

http://morganguyton.wordpress.com/2013/09/30/theology-of-government-shutdown/

On the eve of our government shutdown, I wanted to do some research into the theological roots of Senator Ted Cruz, the standard-bearer of the Tea Party Republicans behind the shutdown. I’m interested in understanding what account of Christianity creates the “no compromise” crusade that the Tea Party has become known for. It turns out that Ted’s father Rafael Cruz [pictured here] is a pastor with Texas charismatic ministry Purifying Fire International who has been campaigning against Obamacare the last several months. He has a distinct theological vision for what America is supposed to look like: Christian dominionism.
