I also now believe that it won't end until one side wins and that side will most probably be the Teabaggers.
The Teabaggers honestly believe that Romney and McCain were not conservative enough and that the way to help this country, and their party, is to make sure that the same mistake never happens again.
They want to damage the traditional Republicans so that more of their ilk can primary them and eventually win their way into Congress. The traditional (R)s are screwed. If they are sensible then they get attacked on the right and if they aren't they get attacked on their left. They have chosen to defend their right flank because being attacked from the left is what they are used to. The thing is that this time it is going to far.
The Republican Party is broken and some now seem to think that it must be destroyed before it can be rebuilt (or replaced). I'm all for destroying the Republican Party but I think it is inevitable anyways. I would rather see a more gradual decline than the short term destruction that we are witnessing now. The entire country is paying a price for this one.

(73,631 posts)The Baggers will most certainly primary all of their asses in 2014.
The Weeping Boner would be first and foremost...
Now, think about this: Not all of the Traditionals live in Tealibanistan districts. These are places where the race suddenly becomes competitive when IF a Traditional is replaced by a raving lunatic of a bagger. We might as well let them have the gerrymandered districts, the worst of the worst are already represented by the Baggers. That's why the other GOPers are quaking in their boot because of them.
We've seen that happen in these last election.
If the Baggers primary and defeat enough Traditionals and those psychos are defeated in the general by Democrats, we could regain the House.
That is the corner that they have painted themselves into.
I say, make them sweat it out until they give up... In both the long and the short run win when they do.

(3,639 posts)party for decades.
2012 was a very clear and loud signal that the tea party message was NOT acceptable to the independents and moderates in the country, and whoever controls that demographic wins national elections.
The tea party's extremist positions are NOT acceptable to the majority in the country
It is the hassert rule that prevents a clean bill from being put before the house. Everyday that goes by without a budget will inflict more and more injury to the republican party, and unfortunately to the country in general.
If this continues to where the debt ceiling needs to be lifted on October 17, the President will most likely need to exercise the 14th amendment to prevent the crazies from creating extreme damage to the country.
If that occurs, I have no doubt that the republicans will impeach the President, but he will not be convicted, and in 2014 the republicans will lose by a landslide

(10,274 posts)for just doing what the Constitution lays out as the responsibility of his Office? I would think that before the House could accuse him (formally) of forcing a Constitutional Crisis, wouldn't the Supreme Court have to AGREE that that's what had happened?
Like if the SC says, "yeah, this was a thing you shouldnt have really gone and done...", THEN the House can bring formal charges, but UNTIL the SC says he screwed up, it's no dice, and go fuck yourselves? I mean yeah, if he had gotten head from an intern or murdered someone in the Oval Office, then SURE, because BOTH of those things are CLEARLY illegal (yeah, I know what I did there, thanks=)), but wouldn't the "illegality" of the action that you're suggesting first have to be determined to actually BE ILLEGAL by the Court?
Not that I have a problem with them doing any of this, because I agree with your assessment of what what would happen in the next election...
Someone more educated please enlighten me...

(3,639 posts)The Senate will not convict
If the President cited the 14th amendment to justify lifting the debt ceiling, that could be brought to the court system anytime whether they impeached or not.
The republicans have been going full steam in their own irrelevancy

(22,308 posts)That is the whole idea.
They want to run the traditional Republicans out of office and get their own kind in office. I expect they are willing to take losses for a couple cycles in order to try and pick up Teabagger seats in 2018.
The House is so gerrymandered that they could lose by a landslide and still have a majority, or be very near a majority. When you add in (D)s that do things like vote to repeal parts of the ACA then the Teabaggers really have very little to lose, even in the short term.
Then consider that in that in their eyes, the (R)s that will lose their seats in '14 and '16 aren't conservative enough for their tastes anyways and they really have nothing to lose at all.
This all adds up to a real mess as far as the shutdown and the debt ceiling fight goes. There isn't really anything reasonable that can be done because the other side is fighting a different fight.

(297,655 posts)their money at the baggers. How many casualties have there been so far? Lugar comes to mind. So Koch puppets are seemingly running the show now. Complete anarchy.. take no prisoners.. free money for Billionaires. Everyone else can get in line at the soup kitchen.
I know mccain wasn't teabaggery enough for them if they would have been formed then. And, ol mittload of the "extremely conservative" persuasion.. made the critical mistake of having a health care system named after him in Massachusetts! Ekkk! That and no one liked him except maybe Ann.
I don't see a teabagger getting to the White House though. They can steal Rep elections by gerrymandering the hell out of red states but they can't gerrymander the entire country or suppress as many votes as they'd like. Voter registration comes with Obamacare..hoping that works out!
The outlook seems bad now with them holding the country hostage.. but, I'm hoping that the ol "Expect the Unexpected" holds true but in a good way.
