(51,666 posts)the supposedly fancy, special medical professionals' group policy I had for years that topped out at $500/mo SEVEN YEARS AGO and had a deductible of either $5000 or $7500 ( I forget) and an annual out-of-pocket of $10K IIRC. And that didn't cover A SINGLE THING until the deductible had been met, so I was out of pocket (including premiums)$11,000-$13,500 per year before I could get an effing aspirin paid for by them.
I had to choose between paying for insurance etc and paying for the occasional doctor visit myself. There WAS no choice. It was bankrupting me.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
