Representative DeLauro: TPP threatens U.S. Food Safety- Will vote against TPA

Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-Ct., said approval of the Trans Pacific Partnership would threaten food safety in the United States during a call with media hosted by Public Citizen's Global Trade Watch today.

President Barack Obama was scheduled to attend an Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting this week in Bali, Indonesia, where TPP will be a focus of discussion. However, the White House announced the cancellation of the trip Thursday night due to the government shutdown. Earlier Thursday, Rep. Jim McDermott, D-Wash., said international affairs should not be disrupted. “Clearly, the president should be able to walk and chew gum,” he said.

Although skeptical of TPP provisions that he says may restrict certain countries' access to medicines, McDermott said he has yet to decide whether or not to support the trade agreement.

Although U.S. Trade Representative Mike Froman said he would seek Trade Promotion Authority, which would provide for an up-or-down vote of the final trade agreement in Congress, DeLauro said she is “not just here to rubberstamp” any trade deals.

<snip>

Noting she will vote against Trade Promotion Authority, DeLauro said the “fast track” option “excludes [Congress] from having a meaningful role.”

I am continually being subjected to hidden gluten. My gastrointestinal health is a mess.

Gluten is in often in food for no good reason that I can determine. Chicken! Why do they inject gluten into chicken? I have to scour the grocery isles for "gluten-free" chicken. Maybe because they can charge more for chicken that won't kill me? Why would they put gluten in cooking spray? Holy crap!

We don't need less food scrutiny, we need more food scrutiny!

Come on, man! Stop the TPP! And any other brilliant trade agreement proposals they are trying to sneak by us.

My sister has celiac disease too.

Me, I'm wheat-free because modern wheat is hybridized horse-shit that's becoming GMO. Too much starch in modern wheat. too frankenfood-ized.

Do you take probiotics?

Me, my daily probiotic regimen- I take kombucha tea, water-kefir, kimchi, tempeh. All are vegan and all are very probiotic.

Also, a good quality probiotic supplement is a good idea too.

You may already be doing this.

Yes, I have been taking probiotics. I have tried it both ways. This is ruling my life. I believe it contributes to my other health problems too. Hugs for your sister.
