Extra Bonus Quote of the Day

"This mess was created by the Republicans for one purpose, and they lost. People in my district are calling in for Obamacare -- affordable health care -- in large numbers. These guys have lost, and they can't figure out how to admit it... So we sit here until they figure out they fuckin' lost."

-- Rep. Jim McDermott (D-WA), quoted by Slate, on when the government shutdown will end.

It'll be a one way trip to a McDonald's in another state, where they'll end their working lives wearing cute little paper garrison caps asking people if they want fries with that.

They won't get reelected...yes, the Kochs have big bucks but the thing about rich people is they don't throw money at lost causes like trying to convince voters to reelect people whose only real accomplishment was fucking up 800,000 people's personal lives by dumping them off the payrolls for weeks on end.

Obama Goes for Takeout Lunch in Midst of Shutdown
WASHINGTON October 4, 2013 (AP)

President Barack Obama used a surprise walk out of the White House Friday to get a sandwich and the spotlight in the government shutdown as it dragged on with no negotiations scheduled with House Speaker John Boehner.

Obama strolled unannounced out of the White House gate, making his way along with Vice President Joe Biden a block up Pennsylvania Avenue to a Taylor Gourmet deli that was offering a discount to furloughed federal employees going without a paycheck. "As long as they're off the job, nobody's winning," Obama said as he walked up to place his order.

He was responding to a reporters' question about a quote in the Wall Street Journal from an anonymous senior administration official who reportedly said the White House was "winning" in the clash over the shutdown, and that the length of the shutdown "doesn't really matter to us." Obama bristled at the suggestion.

of the time I first put my toddler son in a high chair to feed himself. He took one look at me and swiped his bowl off the tray in defiance. I didn't yell or scold him, just let him sit there screaming his sweet little head off while I ate my own lunch. And dessert. Slowly. Then I cleaned up his mess and took him out of the high chair where he'd been imprisoned and sat him on the floor. Said, "How soon are you going to do that again?"

He got nothing but water until dinner time. When I placed him in his high chair, he was too busy gulping down food to repeat the earlier shenanigans. Never repeated his mistake, either. Grew up to be the most well mannered child you ever saw with very little effort on my part.

About crossing the street, though: Little Jimmy loved to pick up rocks and give them names. Very strange names. One day we were in a crowd of people at the crosswalk, and when the light turned green, he shouted to his pet rocks in his pocket: "HANG ON TIGHT, SKUNKS! HERE WE GO!"

I never even tried to explain that one to the people around us.

Just yesterday, my 3-yr old daughter and I were enjoying some chili at Wendy's. She had placed her green dinosaur toy next to her before she dived in. Out of the blue, she looks at the dinosaur, yells "Back off, buddy, this is MY chili!" and backhands the dinosaur off the table.

I just sat there laughing my ass off.

The government is shut down because the president won't kill his signature accomplishment.

If Boehner declares the Hastert Rule dead, 25 Republicans plus all the Democrats (or 50 Republicans plus all the Democrats who don't come from GOP hellholes) will solve this crisis the old fashioned way.

The continuing resolution is just another gift to republians and their military industrial comples donors while continuing to squeeze social programs. So lets not let ourselves get the big head. Reid and Obama did not get anything and will not do anything except make empty promises of standing up for the poor. The deal was made behind closed doors and now we are just lying to democrats who should know better. What do we win, what?

Those of us who pretend to be awake should have caught on when the continuing resolution had both Obama Care Savings and Obama Care defunding. They were just waiting to remove the ObamaCare defunding stuff and pretend a great victory for democrats. In truth republicans gave another gift to their military industrial complex donors while again thumbing their noses at the needy.

I guess I know where republicans stand and I realize many democrats are also paid by fat cats but where are the progressives that should be screaming to high heaven about this betrayal. Oh yeah I forgot they are making a human chain to support the disastrous bill's acceptance. With friends like these , the American people may be better off with our enemies.
There is an answer - get rid of Gerrymandering by creating competitive districts.

“Dealing with terrorists has taught us some things,” said Washington Rep. Jim McDermott after voting no on one of Thursday’s GOP bills. “You can’t deal with ’em. This mess was created by the Republicans for one purpose, and they lost. People in my district are calling in for Obamacare—affordable health care—in large numbers. These guys have lost, and they can’t figure out how to admit it.” Why would House Democrats give away what the Supreme Court and the 2012 electorate didn’t? “You can’t say, OK, you get half of Obamacare—this isn’t a Solomonic decision,” McDermott said. “So we sit here until they figure out they fuckin’ lost.”

The longer it goes on, the longer the activist billionaire boyars smile at shuttered regulatory enforcement.

The longer it goes on, the more the impasse -must- somehow engage willfulness among all its parties--even if the willfulness of Dem's only amounts to the 'let them cry themselves out' tactic.

Consequently, democrats cannot -just- sit there. Dem's must continue to provoke the R's into revealing it is the teahadist faction of their caucus that is the continuing source of the problem.

Without that, the crisis drags beyond it's initiation and the reasons for its continuous become more ambiguous, and the anti-government rebel faction gets more cover.

It should be clear to anyone paying half-attention that the republican talking points are built on the idea that Dem's won't negotiate. This GOP false-flag operation is intent on deceiving and growing their selfish lie into a casus belli that feeds the anger of their anti-federal rebel base and gains sympathy from those who bear the brunt of spreading pain caused by the shutdown.

Are the American people slow enough to be taken in by the deception?

Remember the phrase "Ya, you betcha"?
