This impasse has all the flavor of the Star Trek "No Win Scenario". Obama can compromise and the GOP will shut everything down by cutting spending on everything they don't like and ending the ACA. Or you can hold firm and they will shut down the economy. Either way the GOP will do great harm to the country. Cutting spending and giving tax cuts to the rich will at least cause a recession.

The Republicans will capitulate in 3-12 days. I am on record as saying Monday October 14th.

They have no choice. The Wall Street folks and folks with big stock portfolios are their biggest donors. It is over for the GOP if they cause a massive shock to the markets and they know it.

So we have three deadlines. 6 week funding #1, the debt ceiling, and funding bill #2. And we have no idea of what their demands are. We have an idea, but they really are asking for complete surrender. Plus you cannot stop ACA unless you repeal it totally and repeal the funding as well. Most voters do no understand that.

If, like me, you think that Republicans are THE problem america faces, stay the course and hang on. Close your eyes if you wish.

We have no obligation of saving them from themselves. In fact I'd argue that we have an ethical responsibility to NOT.

No deal for either the shutdown or the debt limit. Bring the people of the mint back as essential personnel, and strike a $5 trillion coin the day after the default with Reagan's picture on the front and an elephant's ass on the back.
