'HORRIFIED' BY SON-IN-LAW BASHAR AL ASSAD

THE LONDON-based father-in-law of Syrian President Bashar al Assad last night begged him to make democratic changes to his strife-torn country “before it’s too late”.

Harley Street cardiologist Dr Fawaz Akhras, says he is “horrified” by his son-in-law’s savage suppression of the uprising in Syria which has cost the lives of at least 7,000 ordinary civilians. As Syrian troops renewed their ferocious bombardment of the city of Homs he revealed for the first time that he has been quietly pushing for reform since before the revolution began last March.

Dr Akhras, admits he is also fearful for the safety of his British-born daughter Asma, 36, who married Assad 12 years ago. There are rumours that she is being kept under virtual house arrest in Damascus by the president’s henchmen who fear she might attempt to leave the country – a move that would severely damage the regime.

Dr Fawaz refuses to discuss the worsening situation in public, but he has told friends in the British Syrian Society he is now in an “impossible position”, caught between family loyalty and worldwide condemnation of the increasing brutality of his son-in-law’s regime.

He said yesterday: “The images which we have seen in Syria are atrocious. It’s totally unacceptable, intolerable. How, as a human being, can you bear this situation?”

There was picture of the couple as they went to vote in the sham election. Asma's smile looked very forced.

The phony election was AFTER that - and there was a photo of her in Syria.

Here father stated TODAY that his daughter is in Syria.

Q.E.D. - Asma is in Syria NOW.

Or does being married to Assad and not leaving him make her a war criminal, too?

When she appeared at the voting - her smile looked very forced. The Syrians are competent enough to target your cellphone and blow you up. Please do not make S*H*I*T up - that is the purview of the right

8. Gotta love newspapers that fill news stories with "rumours."

What the father-in-law says: news

Speculation about the daughter: not news, rumor

The paragraph high-lighted in constructed interestingly. First, the dad says he is "fearful for the safety" of his daughter. The next sentence is about the rumors she is being kept under house arrest. It would be easy to read the paragraph as saying dad is worried about his daughter because of the fear she is being kept under house arrest, but I would wager that dad is fearful for her safety because she's in the middle of an attempted revolution.

as well as terrified for the safety of his daughter and grandchildren. His maniac of a son in law has secured painful deaths for all of them.

At this point, if the Syrian protestors get their hands on any of these people, it will not end well for any of them. A few months ago, protestors were saying that Assad had his chance to leave but chose not to. So they were hoping to do to him (and his family) what the Libyans did to Gaddafi.
