(5,901 posts)Saying John Cornyn is a GOP henchman who tried to get the libertarians and Tea Party out of the Texas GOP and failed. Now the Texas Teas are foaming at the mouth and will definitely "Tea-Party" Cornyn for the Senate in 2014. Let's hope Texas has a great candidate (Julian Castro?) who could win that race against a divided GOP, because they will devour their own.

They will still vote for conservatives, just like we will still vote for liberal-leaning candidates if the Democratic party ever disbanded.
I hope both parties disband. The two-party system has ruined America.

(11,481 posts)Democrats in the fold with the corporatist Democrats are the Republicans and more specifically the Teabagger wing of the Republicans. If they split and that danger is lessened, then the Dems will split too. Either that or the Democratic Party will go back to a more FDR style platform and I don't expect that to happen.
That's my analysis anyway. IF the Republicans actually split into two parties, the Dems will too shortly after.

(27,247 posts)then I envision the right-leaning Democrats merging, or forming a coalition, with the left-leaning (for their party) Republicans, much like what has occurred in Japan when factions within a major party split.

(11,481 posts)Then we'll probably actually see where the country really stands. if a left populist "Progressive Worker's Party" forms AND is able to get it's message out, then Americans will actually have a choice. We'll see what they choose.
