Just had the most insane argument with a lady I have known for 32 years

Mind you this lady lives on food stamps, medicaid, and SSI I asked what she thought of the shutdown She of course is for it and thinks these people are moral Christians. I pointed out that her whole means of survival IS the Government. She said God not the Government takes care of her. I might add 4 of her 5 kids also live on SSI and Food Stamps as well. The one who doesn't is the Democrat who strongly believes her mother has been brainwashed by her fundamentalist church, and in turn has brainwashed her siblings. The Tea Party creeps prey on people like my friend and twist their thinking so much. I hate what they have done to the most vulnerable people, they scare them into voting against their own best interest. I just don't understand it.

When they say it, the proper response is, "And I will think of you when I masturbate."

Or maybe her benefits are direct-deposited, in which case it would be easy to think the money is just appearing out the blue as a reward for her being a good Christian.

Seriously, it's a real quandary about the disconnect between what people think and reality. I don't understand it either.

she truly believes this if these morons make us go into default I suspect she will blame it on President Obama not on House Republicans There is no reasoning with her anymore. She didn't use to be this crazy.

It may be harsh but I've come to the opinion that those whose understanding of Christianity is so willfully ignorant are beyond argument.
For some latching on like this is the only way they find peace and can sleep at night. These kind of crazy fundegelical cultists are what is giving Jesus a bad name..... I sometimes tell them their church is the instrument of the AntiChrist..but so many are so far gone. It's sad.

It's called denial, fully described in every Psych 101 class. A lot of people suffer from it.

She is a waitress with a husband that doesn't work because of social anxiety. The longest he's held down a job is 2 weeks, and he's over 30. Meanwhile their whole family on his side are conservative Mormon Republicans, despite being on welfare, food-stamps, schip, and every other benefit around. I guess he really does have a problem - the guy won't leave his house. He's been my brother-in-law for more than half a decade now and I still haven't met him.

If just pisses me off that these guys think of us as the free-loading "takers and moochers" and consider themselves the bedrock of the country. I've either been in school or worked continuously since I was 15, when it first became legal for me to start working. I wouldn't even know what I'd do if I didn't have work - I spent 6 months on furlough that just about drove me insane in the last recession.

If she were alive today, she would be a gun-toting teabagger, not a bible thumping one, but she would still be voting against her best interest.

Or she didn't pray enough. There is no reasoning because there is always a reason. god blessed them or he knew better and so he didn't.

I feel like everyone around me is going super religious. I was raised Catholic and we would go to Mass and just go through the rituals. Now they have bible studies, retreats, everyone is a " brother or sister" in c- hrist.

And I feel like everyone acted better or at least kept up their yards better when we went about our religion in the old ways. Now it's a free for all, because no matter what you do, all is forgiven. Need to go back to good ol catholic guilt.

I gave up religion years ago.

The bible is full of stories in which nations are punished for the sins of their leaders (kings). She has a natural path to transferrance of all evils that befall her to Pres Obama.

She has an alternate reality than the reality of sane people She will never blame republicans even though the evidence is overwhelming that they caused all the pain.
