(2,679 posts)I thought all the gun nuts rolled downed to Florida. I mean my state is shaped like a gun and many peeps here love their guns.
darkangel218
(13,985 posts)FL doesnt have strict gun laws.
kydo
(2,679 posts)in my state and it seems to always make the news with stories involving crazy people with guns. I figured the amount of gun violence would bump us up on the list despite the lax laws on carrying.
I'm in FL too.
It seems the crime rate is higher in the sates with more gun control rules.

(2,679 posts)A gun store opened around the corner. Right after the election. Its funny because in this corner is a bar, the medical shoppe, a karate school, and a funeral home. Of course across the street is a house with the Israeli Flag and The Confederate Flag (not the rebel flag but the stars and bars).
darkangel218
(13,985 posts)Now.. FL may not be perfect. But we have a huge amount of progressive people here. Huge amount of artists, bands , gay people.
Something which I bet doesn't exist in TX or some other gun nut state.
We are different. Like a breed of our own.
Go FL!!

(1,320 posts)Hippy Hollow? Deep Ellum? All pretty cool places in Texas for music, SXSW has always been pretty artsy...
Other "gun nut" States? How bout little 5 points in Atlanta, the Ryman in Nashville, Bealle Street in Memphis, there's this place in Lousiana, called New Orleans, little are known as the French Quarter... so yeah we "Gun Nut" states are doing okay when it comes to artists, bands, and gay people... many of whom are "Gun Nuts"...

(26,696 posts)There's nothing in your link to describe state gun control policies, but those are not the states that come to mind when I think of restrictive or stringent regulation...
Note also that the link isn't specifically about firearms or violence involving firearms - the whole gamut of violent crime is being addressed.

(114,904 posts)honestly, I think there are other factors beyond gun laws, like poverty, gang activity, etc.
Vermont has virtually no gun laws and has a low rate of gun violence- and most of that is suicide. Want to carry openly? No permit needed as long as you're over 16. Same goes for cc.

http://www.csmonitor.com/Photo-Galleries/Lists/States-with-the-strictest-gun-laws#259367
Studies show that U.S. states with most gun laws have far fewer gun deaths.
So I'm not really sure what you mean with this OP. The evidence I can finds does not agree. The article you linked to doesn't say this.

Are people that genuinely incapable of rational thought or common sense? Or basic comprehension?
South Carolina. The butt of every southern joke that isn't directly about Texas. Alaska. The home of Sarah Palin. New Mexico. Seriously? You genuinely can't tell that this is sarcasm? Do you need emoticons to tell you how to feel about everything?

I think in Alaska you are required to shoot something at least weekly or Sarah Palin comes to your house and jabbers at you until you cry.

(7,720 posts)These violent crime rates don't seem to differentiate between crimes that involve gang on gang violence, or criminal upon criminal violence, or husband/wife violence. The statistics might have more merrit if they only used stranger on stranger crime statistics.
